George Groves / James DeGale... Who will have done more?

More than anything, DeGale needs a new training team. Even having Dean Powell would be a massive improvement from that tool he calls a trainer right now. He's done nothing to bring Chunky along.

Groves looks to be growing quite well and has easily beaten the better opposition and beaten their common opponent in much better fashion. But that doesn't tell us much because of their very different styles.

 

Yeah his concentration is up and down during the fight. The main criticism made against him after the Groves fight was that he couldn't adjust, I wonder if we'll see that problem again when he steps up his competition next year, can't tell when he's clearly too good for guys like Mouhamadi and Zuniga

He has good power, he could have stopped Zuniga. Shame he isn't working on his finishing

 

Degale needs to get rid on McDonnell as soon as possible, I'm not sure he is going to realise this anytime soon though. Another loss will be the only thing I can really see having any influence on him though

Steiglitz would be a fantastic fight for DeGale or Groves, but its a tough fight as Steiglitz has a very good workrate and throws alot of combinations.
I thought Steiglitz beat Abraham in a close fight.
I would favour DeGale and Groves over Abraham, but would like to see both have another couple of fights and then go for the titles

For what its worth I think he would be right up there.When they both turned thought he could do better than James.Terrific boxer and a sportsman,came across as a nice lad.
Believe George and James are neck and neck,IMO the fight could easily have been a draw.Dont want to see another one yet,like Fury and Price like to see them go their own ways for a while.Both,I think,are capable of beating Abraham or Steiglitz though Georges tendency to cut is worrying.Must admit,hes the one Id like to succeed.

 

Degale, right now is getting put through the school of hard knocks.

These are tough fighters he's facing, with little fanfare, learning fights, hard 12 rounders, and I think that's what he needs. I will like to see him change trainer soon though.

Groves, is being built to challenge for a title soon.

I have high hopes for both

 

They are both of a similar talent level but I feel that the Booth way of bringing fighters through is far superior. Its a very calculated, intelligent way of guiding fighters. I do think McDonnell gets too much criticism and think its due to him acting like Bertie Big Bollocks in the leadup to the Groves fight. He's not doing that bad; Degale is always in shape, is a fringe world level fighter and European champion.

However, Groves is destroying/dominating everyone he faces really (Degale aside). I felt the intelligent gameplan both before and during the Degale fight was enough to separate to very closely matched fighters.

Thing is Degale would be undefeated, wouldn't be going life and death with 'Pete the Pole's and have had far fewer miles on the clock if he was with Booth. Groves always comes ready mentally and physically, whereas I think Degale only comes ready physically.

Groves has done far better with a common opponent, has a better win (Johnson) and has a win over Degale (albeit razor thin).
