no way smith wins this, groves is a good big supermiddle, smith is a decent sized middleweight. i don't give a **** who thinks who won the groves degale fight,it was close, coulda gone either way, only each boxers fanboys winge one way or the other. groves delt with degale, smith couldent,he hardly landed ****all without being hit 5 times. groves beats smith on the outside all night long, mid round stoppage, maybe the ref jumps in. smith is decent at brawling with decent brawlers, not good boxers who can do both
come on Will, I watched that fight as a neutral & was disgusted with Groves performance. at least degale tried to make a scrap of it, Groves got a gift & now he acts like hes the man... I dont know how anyone can like or defend Groves or that performance after that.
Sort of agree with Dunky's assessment of Groves/Groves's performance against DeGale. But you're talking shite about Smith walking him down and stopping him in 4. Smith can't walk anyone down, he's terrible. All smith can really do is punch and hold and no he does not hit 'very hard' by any means.
I know this is neither 'here or there', but I remember watching the contender many moons ago & Smigga was on, & I think it was Buddy McGirt who was doing padwork with smith & he swore that Smith hit the pads harder than any fighter he had ever worked with... Thats always stuck with me so maybe it makes me biased when I think of Smiggas power, but IMO Smith is entering his prime now & I thought his last performance was pretty devastating, I know it was only Samuels, but Smigga did a right number on him. Cold calculated brutality, had me thinking that Smith is hitting his peak at just the right time...
They both contributed to the negativity as Degale did not want to go forward either, when he did it was half hearted which is why he got beat. I thought Groves did what he needed to do and won a close but clear decision. He is perfectly entitled to act like the man considering the childish abuse he had to withstand in the buildup and for most of his career.
so basically people here are saying if groves doesn't stand there and let smith hit him he will will steal the victory.
Groves should do some damage on the outside all night and can force Smith to walk into traps too. I expect to see an improved Groves execute a gameplan to perfection by stopping Smith mid-to-late rounds. Groves TKO 9.
It's a pick em' fight for me based on recent form. Groves has shown adaptability, executing an excellent game plan v degale. It was obvious that groves knew degale was quicker than him on the inside and what better way to negate that than fighting the majority of the fight on the backfoot. It worked a treat. Smith is a rejuvenated fighter under Joe g. Quicker, more thoughtful and punching in combinations well. He may not have pleased the majority with the style of his wins v Dodson and quigley, but people should not forget that 1. He beat them well away from his top form 2. Smith had 2 horrendous cuts in the Dodson fight and came Through a tough war badly injured with cuts that weresurely draining and a factor on his performance also. It's not clear cut. Paul can take a shot and won't get hit any where near as much v groves compared to degale. Groves does have a shaky chin. I wouldn't believe all this stuff about smith taking groves out early etc. It's going to take longer than that if it happens. Groves could take this on points, if he can come off the back foot and keep smith at distance. But 12 rounds of doing that? Smith will catch up with him. Then we find out who wins. Excellent fight.
