guys, its useless to argue in this thread. I mean i have seen the likes of Spinks, McCllelan and even Foster being favoured over Dempsey, i mean, whats next Tommy Hearns over Dempsey
I have watched more toney fights at 160lb than any other weight including Nunnn fight, he was a good puncher there, but nowhere near Archie moores punching level at 160-175lb. You continue to forget, Archie is the ALL TIME KNOCKOUT KING IN THE HISTORY OF BOXINNG
Janitor (and others), you seem a bit quick in dismissing McCllellan's chances. Why is it that Dempsey would have no trouble at all knocking out Lewis, who has 60 pounds on him, but when a guy is ~8 pounds lighter than Dempsey, of course he has no chance making it out of the second round, etc.
Tunney weighed about as much as Dempsey in the actul fights. If he was a light heavy in their fights then so was Dempsey.
Dempsey fought most of his fights as a 176 pound Heavy....he claimed to have put rocks in his shorts to make the 186? for his Heavy fight vs. Willard. Don't see any reason to make such a claim if it was not true.
Both 50/50 type fights really. Sombody is going to get KOd brutaly and probably sooner rather than later. Fun while it lasts of course.
Read Dempsey's book he knew lots about the jab, but he fought out of the Crouch. Dempsey's book can be found on Cox's corner or could be a few years ago. Dempsy once woke up in the cabin and appoligised for losing. He'd won against Gun Boat Smith. Fripo got appoligised to because Jack said he was foggy....not that you notice. McClellan fight...Jack's rules hit him when he gets a knee off the ground or Tunney rules? I favor Jack, but as a heavy fight it wouldn't matter what McClellan weighed. He could come in at 190 if it pleased him. And to Tunney putting Jack on his ass, Greb said after the first fight he'd never been hit harder. Or ever hit any one harder....that alone puts the long count in a different perspective of yes Tunney was well aware of the new rules. Dempsy said himself, Tunney could hit. Dempsey said a lot of his knock outs happened because of the old rules. But remember Jack fought out of the Crouch, like a Eubank or a Marciano or a Byrd. I think I'll pay for the fight...it would be a good one.
But Foreman and Tyson are bigger punchers than Dempsey, and Dempsey is not a slickster. So it's Dempsey vs McClellan with Dempsey playing the role of McClellan, except that he does not give up 8 pounds but 20-30lbs. Yet still it's 50/50? Looks like Dempsey is in a win-win situation in your view, reasons only apply when they are advantegous for him.
Archie ain't no knock out king, he just has more knockouts, quantity doesn't mean **** its all about quality :bart
Yoru either biased or have no clue about mechanics of boxing, McCellan has many advantages over Dempsey: Technically McCellan has better movement, tighter guard, superior jab and move boxing (Yes he actually jabs) similar power
