Cooney would have more power in the exchanges then Holyfield so he might get his respect and he might even have a chance to stop bowe
but most of the time I would definitely pick bowe because he's more proven and is more durable and is stronger.
had cooney beat some guy like Greg page, dokes, Coetzee, Cobb, and if he actually beat holmes, I would be more inclined to pick him against bowe.
but he didn't so I think bowe would beat him.

You know who else destroys Bowe? Young and Quarry and other fighters that came before Bowe. Like Baer and Galento. And Johnny Paychek.

Everyone that's sane. Cooney came before Bowe by several years. It's simple maths.

I'm trying to think of an example of Bowe beating a powerful puncher like Cooney.

Hmmm Lewis...nuh,Bruno..nuh,Tyson..nuh,Mercer..nuh,Morrison..nuh,**** what about old George...nuh.

Ohh yeah he did beat Golota twice, and Jorge Gonzalez.:patsch

Holyfield was tops but small and not a big puncher (although big enough to hurt Riddick) at that stage.

The Cooney that bombed out Norton or Lyle has a shot especially against a defensive duffer like Bowe but Riddick does deserve slight favouritism.

The massively overrated Bowe doesn't have the runs on the board to make this the foregone conclusion people are suggesting though.

Riddick Bowe would dissect Gerry Cooney like a surgeon. It wouldn't be much of a fight.Bowe would stop Cooney in around five rounds, seven max.

Bowe was somewhat unproven against punchers IMO, but Cooney (and his power) was unproven against elite fighters in general. On top of that, Cooney had virtually no defense, no survival skills, and folded under pressure.

I would favor Bowe to bully Cooney into a mid-round stoppage similar to how he did against Jorge Gonzalez.

Bowe would utilize his jab and speed
to control the pace. Bowe eats a few hooks and gets rocked
But hurts Cooney badly with an uppercut. Cooney takes Bowes
best combos and loses by ko in 5. Bowe ko 5

    Agreed.

Eddie Futch would have a picnic finding fatal flaws with Cooney and would do the homework pre-fight w/ Bowe to lead to victory over this guy.

It's so hard in boxing to win big fights when the other guy in a competitive match has the superior trainer. I go with the superior corner.
