Hey guys, I have been a lurker for a while and finally decided to join. I am 24 years old and in college. I have decided that I want to get in shape and take up oxing or mma as a hobby. I am 5-10 175 lbs but have one of those skinny bodies with a lil fat on it. I know I am weak and need to get stronger.

I am going to start a workout of mainly Deadlifts, Pull ups, and bench press in order to achieve this.

is this the best way to go?

Yup, work your bigger muscle groups like back, thighs, chest and shoulders.

Dead lift, squats, shoulder presses and bench press :) However, weight lifting is only helpful to a certain extend in sports like mma and boxing. You want to be strong, but u dont want to bulk up like a body builder and lose your agility and stamina :)

That's why you don't consume calories at a surplus if you don't want to gain weight.

that sounds fine, do some squats, maybe some throwing, and you'll do well

Yet this still seems to be such a difficult concept for people to grasp.
