Nah...I just live in reality ...I realize all these numbers mean something for future potential fights ....for someone like u they only mean something if they are in favor of the guy u are backing....otherwise u render them useless Before lemieux fight loeffler told us what he was expecting and what would make it successful for them.....just wondering if he's said anything....for him to not would seem odd But like I said....we know how guys like u operate ....this fight won't do anything and u render it pointless ....but quick to point out others guys numbers or anything positive lol,...ur a bottom feeder chief
I agree that Cotto is bigger than GGG, but I also think the quality of the matchup plays a huge role. For example, Cotto-Kirkland would probably have done less ppv revenue than GGG-Jacobs will, simply because it's not an important fight. Canelo-GGG arguments have been raging on forums, newspapers, etc. for a year now, ESPN and most other media orgs think it hits 1M. But who knows? P.S. I think Canelo-Khan numbers were right, some guy posted the GBP tax files for that fight and it worked out to 600k buys. If you are right that it was less than 500k, then I agree with your other conclusion too: Canelo-GGG will not break 1M.
The way I look at it, Canelo will be in real danger of getting KO'ed, so all his casual + hardcore fans and others will make sure they buy the ppv to watch the fight. Whereas Canelo-Cotto was much a safer fight, Canelo was a clear favourite and the smaller Cotto was always ulikely to KO him.
I'm not saying that Canelo-Khan buys were definitely incorrect, I'm saying the fact that HBO allowed Oscar to announce rather than themselves is fishy, it may have done 500-600k like you suggest. It doesn't matter what we rage on about, at the end of the day us hardcore are the minority, its the casuals who determine how big a fight is. I do think Canelo vs GGG is a bigger fight in terms of international interesf but what Cotto vs Canelo brought were two rival frantic boxing nations following both fighters.
That's true, well said. I guess the bottom line is that no one really knows for certain, we can only estimate to the best of our ability. Hopefully we do get to see it though, that's what does matter!!!
Lol definitely, we're not gunna see a dime of the money so if it wont affect either of us if were wrong or right. I will probably put a bet on Canelo if this fight happens next year coz the odds are too one sided towards GGG.
That's true, despite the rivalry between Mexico Puerto Rico, most don't give Cotto a chance, it still did great numbers. With ggg canelo and as you point out, the threat of Canelo getting levelled, the whole population of Mexico will glued to their TV, similar to Manny fights in the Philippine. Ggg name might not be popular among non Mexican casual fans, but I supposed most mexican knows ggg and the whole ethnic group will buy THE fight.
Shame it's on PPV cause clearly going off the numbers when Thurman fights on freeview the public do still like boxing, this fight should never been on PPV and the numbers are likely to be poor in the 200.000 maybe
I don't know the figures, I thought it was 50/50? It was the same deal as Eubank had in place for GGG. Regardless, Golovkin was the champion.
Same deal yes but no way would it be 50/50, so wait you thought Eubank was gunna get a 50/50 split with GGG? How would that be possible has no big wins, no belts, no headline ppv at that point.
In the same way that Joshua is getting a 50/50 split with Wlad, because it was giving GGG his biggest purse and the opportunity to fight on PPV in the UK. Fighters are clamouring to fight in the UK now because it simply pays more than the States. GGG vs Lemiuex 97k, GGG vs Brook or Eubank 400-500k.
Do you think Eubank is close to Joshua in earning potential?. AJ is getting a lot because he is the one bringing the belt he is bringing 75% of the fans to the stadium of course more fans are interested because its a big name in Wlad but AJ is the biggest star in UK boxing. GGG vs Brook did 400-500k because it is nearly x3 less in price. PPV in the UK is £20 whereas in the us its 60-80$. So that 150k that GGG vs lemieux shipped is basically equal to the ppv revenue of GGG vs Brook. With all that being taken into consideration I doubt it was a 50/50 split with GGG and Eubank and if Kell got the same deal then the same with him.
