I think people are taking it too far in both directions. One group is trying to rationalize this performance by pumping up Jacobs and making out to be better than he is (imo). And saying this was actually a really good performance from Golovkin. Hes a good fighter, and him being bigger than Golovkin def helped... but really, he was an 8-1 underdog for a reason, one with known chin issues, and Golovkin should have dealt with him accordingly.

The other group is comparing a 35 year old golovkin with a lifetime of mileage on him and using his declining performances as 'proof' that he was never that good in the first place (same thing that happened with martinez, the avoided middleweight before golovkin)

I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. G is definitely not as good as hyped, but no fighter is. Jacobs gave him issues because of his level and size, and also though, I think hes on the decline, and is becoming ripe for the taking.

Golovkin vs Canelo was already a close fight to me, its now a legit toss up.

Yeah, he outlanded him, landed the more telling blows, was the aggressor throughout the fight, busted up his face and knocked him on his ass.

Taken together, this is what led three quarters of boxing commentators including Lederman, Jones, Max, Dan Rafael , Al bernstein etc, to score it for Kov.

The poll on here showed roughly the same ratio.

So no, not just the 10 extra landed punches.

    Hahahaha...etc.

we saw a different fight. I saw Kovalev become gun shy in the 2nd half of the fight and in no way did he win the first 6 rounds.. He's supposed to be a killer and was slowed down by body shots. You are aware that body punches are scoring blows right? NOt just head shots

    Yes. Aware of scoring rules.

Like you said, we saw different fights.

Experts and casual fans alike saw it for Kov by a 3 to 1 margin.

In your dreams... you guys labeled Jacobs as a glass jawed fighter, and how did that work out? Floyd has one of the best chins in boxing and some of the best defensive skills in boxing history. GGG would have looked even worst at 154.

Wth "you guys" first off I never lableled Jacobs glass jawed and I thought Jacobs would give Triple G a good fight which he did.
Jacobs is 6'1 and weighed over 180 for this fight plus he's 5 years younger than GGG. It's no comparison to Floyd. Floyd would of been banged around the ring and stopped. He didn't want that work. As Dan Rafael said Earth has a better chance of being destroyed by a meteorite than ever seeing Floyd step foot in a ring with Triple GGG.

    The KD saved GGG IMO.
I still feel Canelo gives GGG a more difficult time. Yeah Canelo dropped the belt but he also drops some MAD uppercuts in the ring.

Coming from the biggest hater on esb that's rich. Ggg isn't that good he was exposed by brook and beaten by Jacobs last night. He got the nod because of money period. They want to make canelo ggg just like oscar got the nod when lost to Sturm because they wanted to make Hopkins-oscar but you already know this but won't admit it.
