If gate sales were the primary profit center, K2 would probably have GGG fighting overseas where he may sell more tickets, but being able to sell tickets in your hometown is a distant second to being able to sell PPV buys and TV ratings. At this point, GGG is the bigger draw on TV, and ticket sales between the two may not be that far off H2H. That doesn't mean he's the better fighter, just more popular with fans.

There is a reason why Golovkin is fighting here and not in his country of kyrgyzstan. Forget hometown advantage, Golovkin wouldn't even agree to fight in his hometown, let alone someone someone from a developed country like Ward. Kyrgzstan is a third world **** hole and no world class fighter is going to fight there.

Sorry, I don't follow what you mean. Is there some famous American sports star in that video or something?

I think Germany would probably be considered more of his "hometown" for boxing events, but they aren't as worried about gate sales as they are getting to that PPV level and getting PPV buys, hence he's being developed primarily in US venues.

Anyway, I'd love to see Ward-Golovkin, but if Ward thinks GGG's team is going to give him hometown advantage, he's got another thing coming. I think they would do 50/50 with him on money, but it would definitely be a "neutral" venue, ref, judges, etc, and I think that's one of the things Sanchez means when he says Ward needs to realize he's not the A-side--that he's not going to dictate the venue, etc.

Golovkin's fights are actually for free on Sat.1, German free TV. Back then they were on DMAX. I can watch the fights in HD. Germans are only greedy about the Bundesliga, there you have topay, but not for boxing fights.

I wouldn't have a clue as it's not common practise for Brits living in Britain to watch Kazakh TV. Oddly enough I've never drunk horse milk either. lol

But I do know that Golovkin is insanely popular over in his homeland. Do you think it's fair to say he's also more popular in the US than the only American (male) to win an Olympic gold medal in the last 18 years? I'm alluding of course to Andre Wald. Or is Wald still slightly ahead of him?

I love how blacks always point out how much a fighter got paid.

Who gives a ****k? that comes down to promoters and manager. Does anyone doubt Wards people are better than GGG's in that respect? They use that as a reason for floyd to duck pacquiao too.
By that rationale nobody should ever fight anyone.

GGG is slightly undersized against Ward..and for that reason shouldn't make this fight UNLESS it's a ppv.

Any idea what kind of viewing figures his fights get over there?

Golovkins gate sales in dollar amounts are several times that of Wards. Attendance numbers have been reasonably close, but tickets to GGG fights are several times more expensive with the vast majority of Wards being under $100.
