Look at the footage. McCallum does a lot of pawing with it, together with the good work. I agree that McCallum gave Toney problems. He does some things better. On the other hand Golovkin does other things better than McCallum. I like Golovkin more, yes. Your mileage may vary. So Steward never trained Golovkin, then?
I'm talking about skill. Watch the Toney and the Canelo highlight reels one after the other. They are both very good but to me Canelo seems to have a better situational awareness than Toney. Toney uses more body movement, whereas Canelo uses just enough to make the other guy miss and counters faster.
I think you are being a bit unfair here. Griffin beat Toney twice on paper only. The 2nd Griffin fight was actually voted worst decsision of the year. So if you are going by that standard, Toney beat Tiberi as well. As for Reggie Johnson, you are in small minority if you claim a Johnson win. That was a clear but close win by Toney without any controversy at the time. My suspicion is that you did not actually watched all these fights, at least not in an objective manner.
Actually Steward trained ATGs, fighters who rank much higher than GGG.Mc Callum is the better boxer, GGG is the better power puncher. Fact is master boxers trouble Toney more than power.Toney has fought up tp heavyweight and was never stopped.
We aren't talking about highlight reels here. Both guys can put on an absolute show and they're both great fun to watch. But watch the fights. It's one thing spread those out. But Toney could put whole fights like that together. See the Barkley fight. Canelo has slightly better pure defense, but James is a more complete package.
For example ... At 168. My point, again. Toney simply couldn't, for whatever reason, reach the same heights at MW. Canelo has one giant flaw which is his hamster lungs and 50cc gas tank. Apparently he's been working on this big time. I guess we will see. At the moment I might give Toney the edge too insofar as being the complete article. I think they're fairly close.
Found this article on Barkley while surfing around: https://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/25/sports/25barkley.html Pretty sad. Hope he's doing better now.
Canelo also only fights for 1 minute out of every round composed of a few 5 second spurts and then a whole lot of nothing which he got away with against small old guys like cotto that he could bully. If Canelo is better than McCallum then so are Lara and Trout because he couldn't seperaten himself from them either. Infact he didn't convincingly beat anyone better than smith or Khan. He beat Cotto who was 15lb lighter, 10 years older and had taken more beatings than Jake Lamottas Wife. How do you picture Canelo doing in 10 years against a young strong LHW Star afteR he's taken as much punishment as Cotto had? He'd get blown out. Yeah his 5 second spurts look great but what exactly has he done other than have a star "look" and a great promoter? Where are these great wins on Jacobs or Canelos resumee? Just looks like a huge circlejerk to me where none of those 3 has any great win other than each other on their resumee but you want to compare them to guys like ****ing Mike McCallum???? GGG is great because he beat Jacobs.....ok why is Jacobs great? Well......he fought GGG. And who did GGG beat? Well.....he beat Jacobs! Give me a break. Look at Pacquiao, Cotto, Marquez, Mayweathers, Wards resumee. Those are modern greats. Lomachenko, Crawford and maybe Garçia are in the process of carving out ATG legacies. Don't get me wrong, GGG will probably end up in the HOF, but let's keep things in perspective here. H2H against the real greats he's proven nothing. He has looked nothing like his destructive self against Canelo, Jacobs and even lemieux. He looked petrified to take risks against Canelo. GGG is not Chavez Sr no matter how badly you want him to be. He is a boxer puncher who relies on his jab and in a hypothetical matchup he won't throw body shots nor put the pressure on anybody just like he didn't put the pressure on Canelo.
... I believe I already mentioned this. You aren't getting my point, and neither did you actually read the post to which you think you are replying to. Yeah boxing often is. That's the point I have made in the past about Holyfield and Bowe but nobody seems to listen. That's sort of the point I'm making about Toney at 160, where he often looks underwhelming against better opposition, but, nobody is listening either. Lets talk about Tiberi and Sanderline Williams. They're second tier fighters that Toney got exposed by. But, we can ignore that, because, um, because Toney just had a bad night. Let's talk about Merqui Sosa taking Toney to hell. What, doesn't count? What about Reggie Johnson giving Toney all he could handle? Oh, uh, he had another bad night. How about Nunn schooling Toney's ass until Nunn's lack of conditioning did him in? Oh...oh, wait, there must be another excuse. Same old story. A prime James Toney looking like dog**** at 160 is an outlier because well, it's James Toney, it's impossible! A 34 year old GGG NOT knocking somebody out is proof he was always overrated. I refer you to: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/double-standard
1. He still got the win 2. Reggie Johnson was a very very good fighter who became a 3 division champ who was never stopped and all of his decision losses were 7-5 or closer, you could argue he could have gotten every decision he lost except vs Jones where he lost every round. 3.i don't quite know how to explain James worst performances, but his best performances are up there with anyone. He was rarely 100% committed. Either way styles make fights and GGG just doesn't have the style to bother toney. He has almost nothing in common with Nunn or RJJ. Toney would were every GGG shot from a mile away and there would be no gassing out like with Canelo. Just accept that your favorite fighter is looking at a horrible style matchup here
its not about GGG knocking someone out, its what he hasnt done, beaten an elite, once, yet. Thats why your post content is ignorable, its irrelevant to either toneys or GGG's highest ability h2h.
Great, now we have Herolclown stumbling into view and fallng into a cake. That's the surest sign that a thread is coming to a close.
tis for you son. thankfully its always the end of you when you start answering like this, thats a fact.
