14 pounds in weight and 2 inches in height.

You also might want to check out his fight with Pat Comiskey. It was his second last fight before retirement and he was the underdog against a 29-1 opponent who was had a monster chin and was a serious challenger to Joe Louis at the time...Baer ended the fight in the first round with a barrage following a brilliant counter-punch.

What you are missing is something you aren't going to acquire quickly.
You need to have a certain anaytical ability that mostly comes with having fought or at least sparred numerous times.
You can know the facts about boxing history all you want, who won which title when and all that can be learnt revised and maintained.

However something you can't just revise is whats really going on in the ring, unless of course you have done it yourself.
How could someone pick up on defensive and offensive subtleties if they haven't even sparred in the ring before.
Ask yourself this, when watching a fight what are you thinking to yourself? What are you looking out for?
Are you looking for the obvious? i.e. combinations, knockdowns, knockouts'.
Or are you noticing their emotion on their faces, their footwork, how they maintain distances, how they use feints, how they draw a lead from an oponnent, how they are using their minds in the ring, how they are conserving energy, how they are adjusting in the ring how they are use mind games, how they are blocking and parry punches, the practicality of defensive movement, how they are breathing among dozens of other things I simply am not motivated to go on and on explaining to you about.

You're arguing with me about Baer as a fighter when you blatently admit you haven't even seen Baer vs Schmelling.:rofl:rofl:rofl
You ha might aswell quit there whilst your losing.
Happens to be one of Maxies greatest victories and you have'nt even seen it.
Its probable you weren't even aware of it.

Back to the drawing board for you im afraid.

Now relate some of this stuff to Max Baer and we'll actually be getting somewhere...

Primo Carnera looked like Willie Pep, compared to Max Baer. An old, slow Willie Pep, with decent footwork and good jab. When compared to Baer.

I don't know what fights you have been watching but Galento and Baer don't look anything like sub novices. Your point has been dis proven by one of my earlier posts. The new school fighters didn't just all of a suddenly come up with new techniques. A tough fighter takes risks and fights the best of the best as often as they can. We are lucky to see a champ fight a top 10 guy in the division nowdays. Fighters didn't take dives when the going got hard. There are somethings about fighters technique you can only say if you have actual experience and you sir clearly do not.

A story was mentioned before about Dempsey and Galento. Dempsey was Galento's manager at the time and he was watching him train at Stillman's and didn't like the way Galento was hooking. Dempsey tried to teach him how to throw a short hook and Galento failed to repeat that, all he knew was how to throw wild swing, Dempsey was very angry about that.

i am 100% behind defending old timers skills but using baer v galento to do it baffles me, galento was not good at all and baer was never technical and near retirement.

baer looks better v schmelling, not perfect but he's in shape and does a good job jabbing with schmelling. the finish is vintage wilder, nice right hand followed by windmilling, he was years ahead of his time there.

Truly embarrassed for the folks around here who see this footage as evidence of subtle, refined skills and techniques.

What we find frustrating, is that you consistently slate these fighters, but never offer up any sort of detailed ****ysis.

You think that if you can point to one technical imperfection, then you can say that they would lose to most amateurs somehow.

I offer detailed ****yses from time to time and they almost invariably go ignored or dismissed with superficial, non-sequitur replies. My post in the other thread comparing Galento and Tyson's punches is one of several cases in point.
