Let's see now -- 27 years old, one loss two divisions north of his normal division, 35 wins, 31 KO's, no middleweight has ever seen the 10th round against him, earned his titles by winning two eliminators and then leaving the undefeated-undisputed champ slumped on the canvass, if not for Pavlik's efforts we would not even be talking about Pavlik/Williams, KP still wants Williams, and he wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Ya -- you're right -- he should vacateatsch
Absolutely, He should vacate and leave the sport of boxing. He has nothing else to offer to this sport.
It is amazing how boxing fans are so impatient. You are either the best or the worst. You have everything to offer, or you are a useless bum. C'mon... These guys are human. They have good nights and bad nights. They get hurt and have personal issues. Boxing is a tough individual sport. You got to be at the top of your game for months to get into and win a big fight. There are only a handful that do it well and only some of those bring excitement to the ring. Give Kelly a break. He has given us some great fights and once he gets his **** together he has much more to provide to this sport.
My biggest gripe with this forum is people think anyone below the top one or two positions are bums or don't exist. They forget guys FIGHT their way to the top through these other guys.
This is a professional SPORT. Not a popularity contest. If he can't train NOW, he will be out until mid of next year without competing. So, where is the problem to become champion emeritus like Klitschko, and get a guaranteed shot at the then current champion WHEN he is ready ? Because he "deserved" this and that, and was so great then and then ? Fight, or take a hiatus. They could even negotiate he gets 50% when he returns. Not fighting doesn't earn the ABCs ANY money, nor the TV stations, promoters, anyone.
And if he can make a fist in two weeks and start training? Personally, I think it will take longer, but I don't know. My personal experience is fingers can take a while to get their flexibility back.
Sitting around without training doesn't just hit your endurance. Your torso muscles build back, which is a major problem for fighters in prison. Brähmer, Rocchigiani, they all were shadows of themselves after one or two years with no formal training. So it's not like he is ready to go after "six weeks of a good camp". That is whistling in the woods. If he comes back too early and the condition comes back, he is finished. So, heal the freaking hand NOW until it's really over, then start training, and when back to a good degree, plan the next fight. Not the other way around.
