It appears that there have been only 5,000 tickets sold for this weekends bout between Golovkin-Geale, well below the expected 9,000.

This places the tickets sold for the event well below that of Hopkins-Shumenov at the DC armoury where the attendance was 6,825.

There is a huge size difference between Madison Square Garden and the DC Armoury as well as a huge difference in fees to rent both venues.

To his credit, GBP VP of east coast operations, Hopkins, did have a strong 10 bout undercard to help carry his feature.

So, a US American sold more cards in his homecountry than a Kazakh and a Aussi in the US? Wow ..

Should have done this in australia, yeh ggg is prob the A side but because aus rarely has a world class boxer we usually turn out for the event, and alot of idiotic fans would rock up betting on daniel to ko the unknown GGG

Or maybe im just biased because i dont get to see any good boxing matches down in sunny old melbourne

So you're comparing Hopkins, who has been on the major boxing front for two decades, to a guy who has only been seen in America maybe four times?

I'd venture to bet that by the time Saturday night comes, there will be close to 9,000 people at M.S.G. For a guy who isn't up against a well-known opponent, and doesn't speak much English, GGG is doing just fine.

What time are the US fights on in Australia. I think us Europeans get it worst, since the US fights are on a 5am!

Although in fairness at least we have some decent fight here as well.

    LOL.
    Washington D.C. isn't Hopkins's home town.
Hopkins is just a better businessman than Arum. He knew he wouldn't sell out Madison Square Garden and also renting the Garden is at least 4-5 times more expensive than the DC Armoury. :yep
Being GBP's VP EAst Coast Operations, Hopkins is probably more aware of venue costs/capacities than your average fighter or promoter.

    Max capacity is 9,000.

For reference, Cotto-Martinez filled the Garden at 21,000.
    Hey, and guess what?
Cotto and Martinez aren't from NY either.
