They'll follow guys who provide excitement.

The Americans don't seem to care about nationality as much if they're being entertained

Basing himself in calafornia will have had a good effect on his fan base as well. ...They will move him along quickly before he starts to decline

Great post really informative. Sounds like Universcum was worse than Al Haymon possibly. But interesting to think, if GGG would have arose on the scene with a win over felix sturm in 2009, it's possible he could have been in the super six... That would have been interesting for sure!

GGG started to become famous among the hard core fans when he was still blocked by the dispute with universum. Doug Fisher and others started writing articles about the fearsome MW that was destroying everyone in sparring. I have to say they were onto something because he did realize a big part of his potential.

Öner is A mobster but he never said Sturm and GGG sparred. He said that Sturm just saw GGG in the gym destroying other guys. And that was enough for Sturm to know the he has no chance

His German box promotion did a horrible job with Golovkin. He fought on small undercards with no tv coverage.I very much doubt that Universum Box Promotion had the intention to hide him in order to protect Sturm and his career.Golovkin couldnt speak German, and his promoter didnt care a fig for him.In his promoter's opinion he was just not financially attractive enough to move him to the bigger stage then.
I am glad that GGG moved over to the states and made it there. He would have ended like other German based ex soviet fighters, like Inkin,Tsypko,Dzindziruk, and so on.
Dzindziruk in his prime was one of the best fighters of our tiny planet, but like his stable mate GGG he couldnt speak German and fought on small shows.A true pity and waste of time it was! When he was over the hill he finally was free and could go over the states and fight there, but too late.
