It's a shame Golovkin's detractors conveniently forget he's being ducked by everyone. Love the excuse used that he doesn't bring enough money to the table. I was always under the impression that to be the best you had to fight the best. Pathetic how greedy this sport has become.
his fans are a bit immature i agree. But the facts speak for itself, all the big names are avoiding, hes in the who needs him club. He's really unlucky pirog pulled out of the fight with him last summer, had he won that fight it would have raised his profile a bit stateside, he ends up fighting proska who already lost, had proska maintained an undefeated record, golovkin would probably have gained more notoriety. Unfortunately guys like martinez who are at the end of there careers want big paydays not passing the torch fights to a unknown darkhorse.
Sturm ducked him and was going to give up his WBA belt had he beaten geale (that shady turkish promoter said this in an interview), geale's avoiding him to face bull**** mandatories, quillin adimitted he's avoiding him, Hearns said he wouldn't put barker in with him, Hassan Njikam was supposed to fight him but backed out too, the only guy whos left is macklin and lee, i doubt lee needs that fight now(he'll likely be sent into retirement) and why would macklin fight him when he could earn a bigger purse against chavez. and pirog pulled out of there schduled fight because his back went.
Funny you should mention that. It was 1963, Elvis was sat at the hotel bar in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he was sipping on a massive glass of OJ. It looked lovely. This was in the awkward period between the release of 'Pot Luck' and 'Roustabout', see. I was unknown at the time but Elvis was still very welcoming, like. He asked me if I wanted a drink and I said, "Aye, I'll have a bitter, Elvis. Lovely jubbly." He replied, "You can't have a bit of me, you bloody big poof!." Anyway, cut a long story short; he smashed me right in the lughole and I hit the deck like a sack of **** mun.
You do, and that's precisely why he isn't the best right now. I like GGG but his fans are quickly turning me off him.
You've just said yourself that to be the best you have to beat the best. He hasn't even fought a gatekeeper yet.
No one is ducking him. His team is offering low money for a very tough fight. If you can take other fights that make you better money, then it's not really a duck.
Why on earth would you question whether he has "massive" power? That is abundantly clear, I don't know how much clearer it could be made for you. His record of sparking people clean out (the ratio of his stoppages that are actually knocked out cold, not ref stoppages) stopping people like Ouma and Ishida who are ridiculously tough, the amateur record. Every single thing you could want to look for in a puncher, the tell tale signs are there. He's not suddenly going to lose all this because he's fighting Sergio Martinez. Sergio might be a great boxer but he's still human, Golovkin's power is still going to be very live, its just going to be a lot harder to land clean and more a process of breaking him down.
I go back to my original point, to be the best you have to fight the best. GGG is the best challenger out there so he deserves his chance. Using the excuse of their not being enough money on the table is ridiculous. It's using a weak excuse to avoid a tough fight.
