Interesting take.Boxing is not a team sport where many players derive from different geographical locations around the world.Canada, while a great Country is not all that populated,in fact,it could be considered UNDER populated in the whole scheme of things.Lemieux is from Montreal and I would automatically presume that as a fellow Canadian he would support him.Obviously I am wrong, but still don't understand it.Oh well. I wonder if he cheers for Russia during the Olympics against Canada as well.
I hear you.Me and my buddies will be there, but then again I only reside about 20 minutes away from the Gardens in Battery Park.I am really pumped for the fight and it's great undercard.I do hope David lands one on GGG and lets see how he takes it. Good luck but I think David's a little over his head in this one but he will go out on his shield. He strikes me a hard man.:thumbsup
Im a Calgarian flying down to watch GGG but as a fellow Canadian will be supporting David. As for the confusion as why someone would support someone else in boxing because of nationality? National pride. Plane and simple as that. I know Lemieux is going to get worked, but any time a fellow Canadian is in the limelight I would support him (barring he doesnt traffic women and duck russians).
lol you said GGG wasnt a star. He just sold out MSG before his first PPV. :grouphug I'm sure you will be around and actively posting in the PPV threads after the fight right? No matter what the number is. Or are you going to disappear and ****tuck your way out of this mess?
The Triple Duck has yet to sell one_single_PPV. Not one. Come back when he does and you have the #s...
Well at least your expectations are of the down to earth type. I expected Bute to UD Froch, imagine how the rest of the night after I got out of that insane arena in Nottingham with nothing to celebrate and about 2 grand invested in the trip.
THAT is exactly my point. The poster I replied to is from Toronto and he was supporting Triple G and not his fellow Canadian Lemieux.I just questioned his judgement of not who was going to win but why would he NOT support Lemieux.
Perhaps he hates Quebecois! Just kidding! I'm too lazy to research so does anyone know the attendance record for a fight at MSG? I reaqd somewhere it may have been Cotto/Margarito and it was definitely over 21k. Even at the current number GGG/Lemieux might be top 3 already but I am not positive.
Do you seriously crave attention that bad? At least half of your pathetic estimate range will come from Canadian buys alone.
We definitely have HBO but we have to pay extra for it, as it doesn't come with our basic cable package. At least that's the case here in Vancouver. Not sure the amount of support Lemieux has but George St Pierre was one of the most popular UFC fighter there's ever been in terms of live gates and PPV sales and he's from Quebec, so they certainly will support their fighters if they like them, and to a lesser extent so will we but French pride is it's own sub culture, much like Latino's living in the US.
It's a bit more measured and toned down over at the comments section on RDS.ca... it's not nearly as optimistic a tone than it was for Bute. They know Golovkin is a huge favourite, with good reason. There's always a few lunatics who think, in this case, that Lemieux is a white Tyson blah blah. But currently, people are generally aware that Lemieux's odds are very slim... they'll still watch it. I expect between 50 to 90K PPV sales to come from QC.
I am from soviet union originally, and treat anyone that has that same upbringing as my own. If it was David against anyone else, I'd cheer for him, but here its two guys I like going against one another. I just like one of them a little more. Plus David is from the francophone population, they don't really like us torontonians all that much.
