Golovkin started being active late, that's true. But even if he was active from the earlier rounds, like around 4th, then the judges would've done the same thing they did in the previous two fights. Adding the fact Golovkin is a bit slower than before because of age and also that he should've never accept this fight - it's his only legit loss.
Agree with this. His only chance was knocking canelo out, which was a slim chance to begin with because he's 40 and canelo has a granite chin. But he approached the fight as though he could outpoint him.
If you watch all pre fight press conferences, you will notice that Golovkin had no ambition or excitement. He was sleepy in all pre fight events. He showed up to lose the fight. He stayed away from Canelo all fight, and did not throw his right ever, didn't engage ever. Lomachenko also noticed this, and he said there's something wrong with Golovkin. Go watch his comments, it's on YouTube. Golovkin, who was super vicious and cruel against Murata 4 months ago, was very tender against Canelo. He was caressing Canelo's head with pitty pat fists. In the end of the fight, you notice that he was happy to lose, because he got millions of bucks for this fight $$$. He was there to lose, because he was in the end of his career anyway. Battling hard and beating Canelo wouldn't matter anymore. Because he would be paid the same amount of money. Why should he shorten his lifespan further by getting vicious punches to his head? In the post fight interview, he said "I'm wiser now compared to my 5 years younger self. I know how boxing industry works and how judges score the fights." He wanted to say: "No matter what I do, I would lose anyway, so why would I get into a hard battle in my old age of 40? I stayed away from Canelo all fight and received my paycheck. Now I'm going home being a richer man than yesterday".
I think in the ring they both made an unwritten agreement to make it a glorified sparring session. Canelo was satisfied with an uninspiring win (and the money!) and GGG was satisfied to not take too many chances (and the money!) and to keep it relatively close (but knowing he was going to lose).
Sturm, then Geale gave up his belt after unifying against Sturm, only to blown out later against GGG. Canelo gave up his WBC belt to avoid his mandatory against GGG, then announced he needed 16 months to grow into the middleweight division, even though he currently outweighed GGG on fight night weights while fighting at jr middleweight.
The judges and promoters took good care of him when they did finally fight. At worst it should be 1-1-1, i still have it 2-1 Golovkin.
