It's easy to say that Canelo would have laughed at Ward's power. A huge punching LHW also thought the same.

Canelo knocking out Ward would have been the least likely have thing to have happened.

It's got a very cautious decision win written all over it.

It would probably have been a very dull affair.

And Ward said he would go down to MW or lower to fight Floyd. Ward is a bigger guy than GGG and is a good fighter. It’s the same reason Canelo, a true MW if we see being honest, had to be dragged to fight GGG at 160, versus the Caneloweight of 155.

Ward never saw 168 after the GGG discussions anyway. I doubt he could make the weight anymore at that time because he fought LG at amateur and looked pretty comfortable at 175 for the time he was there. Ancient history and it’s been argued to death. Canelo looked pretty good at 175 and seems to be able to hydrate to higher weights and maintain his power and most of his speed and agility. He’s not a true LH but I think he’d still give Ward a good fight and beat him. Ward wouldn’t be able to cheat against Canelo and I don’t think he could beat him in a fair fight.

Canelo looked pretty good at LH and I don’t think Ward would be allowed to hold all night, lead with his head and hit below the belt against Canelo. Take away all of wards biggest weapons and he’s nothing special. His punches are the least of an opponents worries. Kov put Ward down with a jab. A Canelo hook on the bottom might put him down for 10.

People seem to base their Ward victory on the current GGG and Ward's victory over Kovalev.
Here are some facts to consider:

Prime Golovkin is better/sharper than jaded Golovkin.
Golovkin is not Kovalev and was always the more complete fighter.
Ward cannot out grind a guy with an engine like Golovkin the way he did to Kovalev.
Ward cannot mentally out tough a guy like Golovkin the way he did to Kovalev.
Ward's infighting is not going to work as well against Golovkin, who is happy to fight up close, unlike Kovalev.
Golovkin's shorter arms would help him fire hooks/uppers inside during Ward's wrestling exchanges more easily than gangly Froch and Kov could.
Golovkin has some wrestling/grappling in his background, which again helps him out inside.
Ward cannot hurt Golovkin, especially at 164-168.
    Golovkin can hurt Ward.
Golovkin would find the target, just like Kovalev did. Even Froch landed a good counter hook, Paul Smith a good back hand. Ward is not impossible to hit and Golovkin has excellent skill and timing. If he can find Canelo's head with power shots, he can find Ward's too.

Golovkin is a more rounded/skillful fighter than Kovalev, Froch, Kessler, the better fighters Ward defeated. He may be a little smaller, but the size difference isn't huge. Ward is around 6ft, a few inches taller than Golovkin. He's hardly Callum Smith in there. He bulked up for 175 but that's misleading, he was a career 168r.

Ward is naturally larger, and would wrestle, at 160 A drained Ward would get knocked out, at 164 Ward gets outboxed but gets a controversial UD by his pathetic judges.

It's hard to see GGG doing any worse than Boone.

GGG switches Wards lights off, perminatley.

Would never happen in a million years.

No way in hell loaded dice B-side has the stones to fight a beast like Golovkin without the fight at 168, in Oakland with a 75-25 split and four American officials.

I am/was huge fan of GGG and Ward is one the fighters I liked the least over the last few years. Still this is a bad match up styles and size-wise for GGG and provided Ward could cut the extra few pounds safely he's take this by comfortable UD IMO.

I doubt Ward could have made 164 when this was mooted. And easy with the ducking statements please, on both sides. It just never made financial sense for either to take the fight on the other's terms.

It made perfect sense in terms of the best fighting the best. Thats all we as fans should be worried about.

The financial side of things always comes up as an excuse when one side is ducking the other.

At the time it was a good fight to make and Ward tried his best to make it. It was a risk for Golovkin same as Kovalev was a risk for Ward.

The difference between Ward and Golovkin is Ward accepted his challenge , Golovkin bottled his.

This. At the end of the day Ward moved up after cleaning out 168 and defeated the Undefeated 175 Unified Champion not to mention he ended Chad Dawson’s career. Meanwhile GGG stayed at 160 fighting lower competition to wait for Canelo only to fight passive and get screwed by the judges..

Ward schools him it's the reason why GGG ducked him and wanted a catch weight at 164 but wanted to fight Froch and JCC Jr at 168. BTW the TS is a banned alt troll.

Ward by TKO. This won't even be competitive in any way.

Golovkin wanting to fight Froch?. Froch would literally kill him. There's a reason that fight never happened. JCC Jr. sure, he meets their requirements but no way in hell they were any serious about Froch or Ward.
