Canelo isn't a big hitter. He tagged Chavez Jr with the same shot over and over again and it did nothing to him. He blasted Cotto with his best uppercut and it did nothing to him. Your example is poor. GGG simply does not have a granite chin based on taking a punch off Canelo. If anybody came out of that fight with a granite chin it was Canelo.
This. Single shots to his chin are almost completely ineffective. Clean shots to the body and sneaky combos are what back GGG up, but nobody can sustain it. As soon as GGG gets hurt he goes to his jab and just wears his opponents down.
I seriously will be very sad when he retires, he will for me be the icon of this generation along with Mayweather and Pacquiao, people who slate his resume are idiots, he fought everyone in middleweight, only one left is Saunders really. I still feel he is underrated, GGGs boxing skills are really up there, he has everything a boxer needs, top 5 middle jabs ever, top 5 chin and so on...
His chin is at the rare level it would never be a reason he loses, ever. Even IF he lost by stoppage (doesn't matter by whom) it would be by taking simply too many shots and having the fight beaten out of him. IF he ever lost by true ko, would have to be from the perfect shot, perfect time, perfect placement. Unlikely to ever happen, he rolls with any big shots landing. Even the super quick handed, very quick mind ELITE counter puncher canelo landed very few big clean shots that weren't rolled with or partially blocked. I remember 2 that were entirely clean, unexpected and great shots that affect most but nada on ggg. The right counter uppercut off the ropes round 5 or 6 and the clean over hand right in round 8 (fyi: rounds are off memory and could be off) that over hand right looked like it killed Khan and kirkland. Ggg just has to reset Also jacobs and lemmey landed their money shots, both of them with no affect. Tho, their landed them later in the fight where they could've been too weakened. Both clean but no affect, ggg a reset and that's it. I've seen ggg buzzed once and he recovered in seconds, I'm telling you seconds. He was caught hard and out of nowhere, walk into it and that's when I knew what we had. That was when he was at his absolute peak, maybe that's why he recovered fmj style. That's one huge positive or negative I have to see with a fighter before I can truly gauge a fighters ability and his ceiling
Do you think he'll move up to 168lbs after Canelo rematch? And do you think he can make an impact in that division with the time he has left?
I think its his level of competition strictly with most. That a side, I don't think you can fault him really. He forces attitude when you see it for the situation, don't strike me as a bad man in any way. On racism he said " my mother brought me up to love everybody black AND white"..That'll do me, I believe him !
Glad your saying it as it is and taking the time to show respect to this formidable fighter ! We should all have a meet and raise a glass to the king when he goes...
Don't blow a gasket....just an opinion...A lot of Boxing Fan's agree with me...a lot will agree with You....and as for size in the Golovkin fight...I have no doubt Canelo was Much heavier on fight night than Golovkin...
Im thinking of organizing a group of the most hardcore Ggg fans so that when he retires we can drink some spiked Kool-Aid to send everyone to Golovkin Heaven. Are you in?
He walked him down, canelo was very aware of being caught. Tried his best to stay out of range, but got touched up non-stop
