Man some of those shots were just vicious.....almost seemed like you could hear the air whipping before the impact. And in combination too....whew...scary stuff Far cry from potshotting that is fo sho
Indeed Pavlik had power at the end of his punches while coming in. That's partially of his long hands traveling at a greater distance gathering momentum just like Hearns. GGG has a static power due to technique as explained in my opening thread. GGG has no physical attributes that help his power... He is not tall, or heavy, or stalky built. He just follows through superbly after each punch. It's like he's punching through the target not on it while staying balanced.
He also lunged a lot against Wade. In both these fights he threw technique out of the window. I don't care how he treats cannon fodder like Wade but I wanted to see how he boxed against a quicker opponent who wasn't afraid of him like Kell.
I like your write up on where his power comes from, but i think its one of those things that cant be explained, much like a granite chin, or cornflake Chin. Some people just have it. Look at Naseem hamed. Not much to look at physically, but have great power. Same with GGG really. If you didnt know, you probably wouldn't have him down as someone that can punch. His technique and balance is great, but there are other fighters out there with better technique and balance would couldn't crack an egg He just has freakish power. It cant be trained. Its just there.
I noticed the strength of his wrist also. My theory is he in wisely build up the wrist so he could land forcefully without injuring himself when he throws from odd angles. Most fighters would hurt their wrist landing with punches the way ggg does.
Good balance. He is in good position to execute his punches. His arms are an extension of his body. And his wrists and forearms are very strong.
Most fighters do injure themselves to different degrees in a boxing match at pro level . Sprained shoulders , elbows , wrists , hands it is just part of the sport . The human body wasn't meant to have weighted fists being thrown many times forcefully for even a couple of rounds let alone hundreds of times over 10 or 12 rounds. Golovkin didn't have an off night vs Brook he fought a high level boxer with excellent distance judging . Had to chuckle when Brook said GGG wasnt a big puncher but big enough to break his orbital bone and force a stoppage before the fight was half over .
its a combination of many things, the most important ones being balance, and a sixth sense about where to be planted when the punch hits the target. his center of gravity is always where it will provide the most solid base from which to transfer force out of. when you dont provide a solid enough base, its like punching on roller skates. some of the force bounces back and moves you, instead of the target. a good example of this perfectly balanced solid base while in motion, was the geale stoppage. he ate a perfect right from geale and was still solidly planted enough that his own simultaneous punch lost none of its sting.
Pavlik can't hold Golovkin's gloves from a power standpoint. Pavlik's best T/KO streak in his career was 14, when he first started out. His best T/KO streak in title fights was 2. GGG has a current 23-fight T/KO streak and 18 of those are in title fights. Just different classes of fighters. Pavlik was good, but he's not at GGG's level as a fighter or as a puncher.

Both were perfectly timed punches landed on an opponent moving forward which added to the effectiveness .
