Was it just me, or after, Curtis stevens felt ggg's power when he hit the canvas he did a rick flair impression "wooooooooo!" It was funny but sad to watch any fighter get beat down by a monster puncher
Monstrous puncher, not in the same way of a Julian Jackson, but he has the sledging power. I think Curtis just felt like he had been hit by a bat.
I was surprised to see Stevens get up. He looked almost out of it. His eyes staring up at the lights as he laid on the canvas. Massive props for Stevens for getting up and having another crack at GGG. GGG has legit power at 154-160. Not sure if the power would carry to 168.
@flexe with those bigger guys I think GGG would have a notch over accumulative power rather than the legit game changing power he posses at 160. He'd better stay at 160 or go to 154
Most definitely. Kovalev would've had that punk out by r4. Every punch kovalev delivers has a big thundering snap on the end of it. it's just painful watching his opponents be on the receiving end of his punches
Showed how hard he hits the way Stevens ran around holding his gloves to his face like a little girl in her first sparring session.
Wrong Pac didn't have much punch when he weighed 107, it was only after he started" working out" that he gained all his power
It's the combination of power, volume, technique, and shot selection that makes him special. He's got one-shot power, the conditioning to deliver it 90+ times round in, round out, and has a lot of versatility to his game. GGG's probably the most complete offensive fighter in the sport today, and even his defense complements his offense by always leaving him in a position to throw back. He'd be a champion even if his power were just average at the world level, and that's not something that can be said about most power punchers.
Imagine Golovkin-Calzaghe at 168. Most punches thrown in a fight north of 154, ever. :!: He should stay at 160. I believe he will get manhandled at 168 where his opponents will come out with gameplans similar to what Ward did to Abraham, even more so at 175.
It's easy to throw a lot of punches when your opponent is lying on the ropes with their gloves welded to their face. There's a lot of power in GGG's hooks and they are accurate cultured punches. Stephens was a step up. I want to see another few top fights at 160lb to really get an accurate picture on GGG. I think Kovalev puts everything into every shot he throws. The problems for him is I don't see him keeping it up for 12 rounds if he can't blast his opponent out of their.
It was funny but not sad imo because what goes around, comes around. How many times has Stevens beat the hell out of people? GGG does have excellent power for his size.
No joke on Calzaghe-Golovkin. I actually think Golovkin's grown into a full-size middleweight now, just not a plus-sized weight drainer like Chavez or Pavlik was. He's almost 5'11, which isn't tiny for the weight class, and I think he does have the frame to move up better than a shorter, musclebound fighter like Abraham did. Still, any move up to 168 probably shouldn't happen for another year or so. He's just now looking filled out at the weight. I think the days of him comfortably making 154 are over.
