He was serious, did they not make offer their services to Froch and Chavez?

I take realistic comments seriously like a fighter says he isn’t gonna vacate or he plans to move soon I take that seriously but if they say I’m gunna knock someone elite out in 1 round then I’m more skeptical and likely to ignore it.

Sanchez made a challenge to the 168 division, but I tend to consider that just running his mouth, i.e. just exaggerated hype. Many promoters and trainers do this sort of thing.

The reason Team GGG wanted a catch-weight for Ward is that Ward was a) better; and b) less money than Chavez Jr or Froch. Just a business decision, actually asking for 164 was basically telling Ward they weren't interested. GGG with a loss makes less money vs Canelo, even if he got 100% of the purse vs Ward he loses money overall and also hurts his chances of even getting the Canelo fight. The correct business decision, but as you point out it also proves that he was after money and not legacy, or not confident of beating Ward at 168, or both. Plain fact is that all fighters are after a mix of the two (money and legacy), usually 99.99% the former. Golovkin in his early career was chasing the big fights desperate to prove himself, but later reverted to the norm.

The basic career summary of Golovkin is that until about 2014 he was keen to fight the best (although this was also the best policy to maximize his long-term earnings). From 2015 the prospect of Canelo money came up and he devoted his attention to securing and maximizing that. Hence the complete lack of interest in fighting Ward in 2015.

    @jmashyaka

Just one more thing, as you know many fighters boast about who they could beat without trying to prove it. You're completely correct when pointing out that Team GGG's actions didn't always match their words, however it's common. Froch claimed he could beat Golovkin at 168 and then decided not to sign the fight and retire instead. Floyd said he could beat GGG but never tried to prove it.

In short, if you judge GGG according to the standards of his casual fanboys, who a) don't know how the business of boxing works and b) swallow everything they talk and c) worship KO power as if it's the most important thing, he'll always come up short.

But compared to most other contemporary fighters he's an excellent role model and respects the sport.

Oh! So it IS about Saunders??? So you knew it was about Saunders and you left out that part. Why did you do that?

And Golovkin had an agreement with Saunders before? You are the first person to ever report this. What did the contract say about the purse split? How were the PPV revenues handled?

Consistency? The situations couldn't be more different.

Wards legacy after the super 6 was already secure, so what if he took a rematch against Froch in England for the $$? Froch was widely considered top ten P4P after his excellent run post Ward, not like he was trying to rematch some bum.

This makes no sense. Why would GGG happily go back down to campaign at 160 after fighting Froch and Chavez at 168, but not Ward?

Yeah your right they do, Froch ducked GGG imo. I don’t like Floyd but he didn’t fight up at 154 often so that’s not really a duck but I could accept it if someone said it was.

Legacy secure? Just for being the SprMW champ? Ok....

How many times does it need to be said to you guys... the offer to face Froch and chavez jr was simply because both offered a high purse and exposure. The goal was unification of all MW titles, and in the interim that a particular fight couldn't get made, they would consider one of them.

A fight with Ward would have offered a high purse and exposure, maybe not quite as high a purse as Chavez or Froch but being such a legacy defining fight that should more than make up for it to GGG right? - 'boxing is too much of a business, i just want to fight the best'. If he was confident he could beat Ward at 168 like he was Chavez and Froch, he wouldn't have offered a catchweight.

Ask Kovalev how much money SOB Ward brings to the table, he takes almost all the money, in the last fight Kovalev got nothing! SOB had to cheat as he always does whenever he has a tough fight. Kovalev won the first fight by decision, then he won the second by disqualification if the rules would have been followed! SOB is the dirtiest boxer I have ever seen, he cheats. Low blows to the testicles are illegal and there is proof!

Take a close look at those low blows, anyone who says they were not low is lying, or has no idea what the rules of boxing is. Golovkin is the best middleweight in the world, Saunders refused to fight him more than once, they are giving up on Saunders, hope Saunders changes his mind......................he beat El Pollo for sure, that fight was not even close. Martinez would not fight him, he would have knocked Martinez out, he would have knocked Cotto out, Void, Void said he would fight him, but backed out, Golovkin said that was the only fight he would go down to 154 for, Golovkin would have been sick at that weight, but Void would not fight a sick Golovkin. Kovalev would knock SOB out with neutral judges, referee, boxing commission. Kovalev wanted to have neutral judges, SOB said neutral judges would be unfair! Why is that?! With a neutral referee SOB would have been knocked out or disqualified. Golota would have been given a knockout over Bowe if Toney Weeks had used the same rules as he did for Kovalev/SOB. I do not respect anyone bragging about SOB Ward, he is a disgrace to boxing, a cheater, did you see the acne on his back? Jackson, Kovalev's trainer was working for Ward, seems as if everyone knew it but Kovalev..................https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsESP_NqbCQ

Take a close look at SOB's low blows, the low blows were thrown in an upward motion to hurt the testicle the most, the cup comes up and hurts like Hell! I know, I have been his like that, it's an old trick if you want to really hurt your opponent with low blows, it takes a lot of time to recover...................SOB fans will not watch thte low blows because they dont' want to see them..................

Ward never made any serious attempt to get the Golovkin fight. He didn't care for it. It was always Golovkin's team talking about the match. The only time Ward ever said he'd fight Golovkin was straight after GGG had signed to fight Lemieux, which is clearly a troll. Ward would rather fight guys like Barrera and that useless Brand guy rather than face Golovkin. Those are the facts :deal:
