Golovkin wasn't keen on a fight where he had to do the lifting in terms of viewership and then also split the prize down the middle. It's clear to me that he was willing to compromise on the weight if Ward was going to compromise on the money. They were willing to do the full 168 later, BECAUSE Ward had become much more marketable, it seems to me.

TBH, what it comes down to is that there never really was the money available to entice these guys into a fight, in such a manner they would both be satisfied.

From Golovkin's pov, what's the worst that could happen?

He loses to a huge 168lb elite fighter while he's a relatively small 160lb guy. No real damage to the brand, even. Hagler wanted no part of Spinks - Golovkin was willing to make the Ward fight for the right terms.

No, Golovkin bum boys argue that Ward should have fought Golovkin.

How much bigger of a draw is GGG than Kov? Their tv ratings are similar. GGG sells a few more thousand tickets.

GGG vs Ward back in 2015 sold 250k PPV tops. GGG would have lost to Ward. GGG stock would have taken a hit. They were wise to avoid that fight.

It's funny how people still bring up Andre. It's like they can't get him out of their hateful minds.

He's living rent free in their heads.

Hagler became undisputed and defended it for years. He had excellent competition around him, until the Jacobs fight Golovkin had no one elite around him in his division.

I will say now GGG has some names so the next couple of years could decide how high up the legacy rankings he will be remembered.

Come on. GGG is not a big MW and yet you want him to step up to fight a bigger, undefeated fighter? You just want to see GGG lose. Just admit it. You're not interested in the fight. You are interested in seeing him lose. Conversely, why doesn't Ward drop down to fight GGG? Answer. Because he is too big. That's all you need to know.

This is the usual narrative. Mention Ward and he's too small , but match him against any other SMW and he wins by stoppage.

Im a big Golovkin fan and im gutted that they dont see that as being a priority now when it has been their main aim for his whole pro career. I want him to achieve that. If his main priority is revenge over the cheating ginger Mexican then thats fair enough, beating Canelo again is a big deal to him and the money is big too. But other than that i had hoped Saunders would be the fight he wanted the most.

Lol he is the one who made the call outs, I’m sorry the best guy at 168 responded. I wanted to see GGG tested, GGG was the one who said 168 for Chavez and Froch and even when he said 164 for Ward, Ward was ready to meet at that catchweight.

Excellent comment, the problem he now faces is keeping those belts. If he fights Canelo straight away he loses the IBF, if he fights Derevyanchenko and wins then fights Canelo. Immediately after if he wins that he will have to face Charlo then Jacobs.

Imo Canelo will beat GGG, the deck is to stacked against GGG and when he does he will vacate the belts coz he will have no interest in facing Charlo or Jacobs.

I have Hagler top 5 ever at 160(no probs with him being classed no1), but his standout names weren't middleweights, great yeah, elite as possible imo, but they were not 160 lb natural fighters. I could match up Haglers, Hopkin's and GGG's records and there isn't a fat lot in it really. Hopkins and Hagler have bigger names but not any 160lb rivalries really. Longevity has a large part to play in greatness too, dominance of a division, that has to be acknowledged as much as anything, and that imo is why GGG is a top 5 middle ever, nearly 10 yrs he has been regarded as the best

Let's stick with Ward because that is who we are talking about.
GGG is 36. He is at the end of his career. Why don't you just admit it? You want to see him lose. No one wanted to fight him when he was in his prime. Now that he is aging they are lined up. In his prime he beats all of these guys. Now? Anybody's guess.

Lol I don’t care if he loses or not, I’m not emotionally attached to any fighter. Your right in his prime a lot of fighters ducked him which was why I wanted to see him take on Ward coz he actually wanted it. Froch and Chavez didn’t want it and Ward did.

I think Ward beats GGG. He's too big and talented. If they were the same size maybe GGG stops him.
