Damn it, had to take a horrible emergency **** and had to rewind, so this is 5 minutes behind... Round 1 Latimore pressing forward with his guard up. Powell finding open areas and sniping out pot shots, particularly digging hard to Latimore's body. Latimore throwing punches in bunches and initiating the action and takes the round on that basis. 10-9 Round 2 Powell throwing straight basic combinations are Latimore's forearms and having his attacks smothered. Latimore keeping a good defense except for when his hands start moving (no head movement). Powell abandons the combinations and tries to feel out an opening in Latimore's guard with his jab. Latimore keeps right on top of Powell to not give him room to get off, and they trade shots on the inside with Latimore busier and Powell landing harder. 20-18 Latimore Round 3 Latimore using a crouch as he comes forward to get under the straight punches of Powell. Powell not making the adjustment to dip down or lower his punches. Powell is able to time a Latimore attack by putting a bit of a curve on a straight left (almost a "breaking ball" punch for the baseball people) to the right side of his jaw. Latimore continues to back Powell up but isn't hurting him with anything. Powell wisely avoiding the pocket where the advantage is to Deandre. 29-28 Latimore
Round 4 Latimore's attack is intensifying a bit. Powell is firing a steady jab as he backs up. Latimore is walking through it and catching Powell clean. In the last minute, Powell steps forward and stops Latimore in his tracks with arcing punches from the hip. Only momentarily - Latimore is undeterred and continues to come at Powell for better or worse.
Round 5 Latimore continues his advance, with his upper body and head straight up and stiff as a board, and his gloves up tight around his face, elbows tight to his pecs. Powell has a more relaxed fluid stance, and is able to roll his shoulders and glide around the ring laterally to evade Latimore for the most part. Latimore's right jab is popping out at angles, sometimes almost sideways, and catching Powell as he moves but not with direct impact. Powell is throwing counters on the move and doing a good job avoiding punches other than the grazing jab.
Close fight , maybe judges like the aggression , Powell only really connection with jabs most of the time .
Latimore still relentless , Powell better not cry if he loses this , I don't see how he could do enough to win a lot of those rounds .
Round 6 Latimore materializes right in front of Powell to begins the round. Powell asks Scotty to beam him away with a 1-2, which whistles past both sides of Latimore's head and gives him time to fire one of his own, which Powell slips. Powell jabs under Latimore's elbows, then brings it upstairs to bang against the gloves, and follows with a piercing left hand. Latimore takes another left to the chin, which is still held straight up in the air as he stalks toward Powell on the ropes. Powell triples jabs and pounds Latimore's sides to get to back off, and then sneaks out of the corner he was trapped in. Even.
Round 7 Latimore's lack of head movement really hurting him now - Powell timing and hitting him with both hands on the way in, with Latimore's face now red and one eye looking a bit squinty. Powell fights his way out of a corner but takes a deep breath and plays with his trunks as Latimore resets. The pressure may be getting to him, he seems a bit uncomfortable. Latimore is unable to catch the slippery man, or the round. Powell 67-66
Does anyone else think that Powell is like a southpaw Floyd and Latimore is like a lesser Mosley...lol I am getting a feeling on how that fight is going to play out. Powell got a nice ass southpaw jab though. Busting the other dude up.
