My impression has always been that Carlos Palomino is a really good guy. Don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad word about him.
A real classy man and champion, I enjoyed watching him fight. A humble good sport, and a single father. I loved his beer commercial, and saw him on an episode of Taxi in 1978. He was attending college while he was champion.
George Foreman, Gerry Cooney, Nino Benvenuti, Ray Mancini, Lennox Lewis, The Klitschkos, Larry Holmes, Earnie Shavers,......
Some more I thought of Jimmy McLarnin Jim Watt Hilmer Kenty Michael Spinks Azumah Nelson Felix Trinidad Benny Leonard Winky Wright Boza Edwards
Vitali, McGuigan, and Arguello all got involved in politics without much bad press (Arguello being the most questionable). Joe Mesi tried and basically failed at getting political offices.
I would to preface this by saying I don't idolise any fighters in the way this thread suggests. Anthony "The man Mundine" is a controversial figure in Australia. He was well known for saying many controversial things and made a living getting people to hate him and watch his fights to see him fail. But I have only heard positive things from people who actually know the real him. My friend's wife taught him and his sisters all through High School - he was lovely very polite and a hard worker. Never any issues with him, he trained hard to be a pro footballer and was not arrogant to others at his school. He runs a mentoring and employment foundation for indigenous youth. He visits the Juvenile prisons to give speeches to inspire the youth (I taught a Indigenous boy who told me this last year). Another boy told me that Mundine would visit his housing commission area and he would give fistfuls of cash to the young kids telling them to stay out of trouble.
