I think Lockett will suffer from the same problem as Enzo Mac suffered from. Too many weak opponents, and when they step up, it's a huge shock.
I realize it was the interviewer who said "Kelly's not pretty." Lockett did not say that, but I hope for his sake he is not buying into that crap. People never learn. They say the same stuff about Pavlik before every fight. "He's one dimensial" "He's easy to hit." "There are no surprises with Kelly" "I'll just take him out in deep water and drown him." "He's to predictable." He just comes straight at ya." Blah, blah, blah. And yet his zero remains intact, and his KO ratio is around 90%. Plus he just won a UD over a guy that Hopkins and Wright could not beat. I hope for Lockett's sake that he really and honestly takes stock of the fact that he is about to climb in the ring with a VERY dangerous opponent. He MUST NOT try to box from outside, that's obvious. Can he do something on the inside? Only if he is stronger and faster than JT, tougher than Zuniga, smarter than McKart, and hits harder than Miranda. Boo
This stuff is what it is. Press. Remember Jack Loew's admonishment to fans about taking Lockett lightly? This kid can fight, said Loew. Shame on people who think hes no good. Just because hes never fought in the America, this isnt going to be a walk in the park. Fans/press can do what they like. The fighters and trainers HAVE to be objective. I'm sure Lockett has been studying his film too.
Leow has tape of 4 Lockett fights. I wish they would put those on you tube. In the same article you quoted from Leow compared Lockett to Zertuche, and it now appears that Kelly may have ruined Zertuche. Boo
lockett was low key and for the most part respectfull in the interview. i prefer this type of interview rather than the huge ammount of trash talk reading box talk its as if 99.9% of the interview`s think there opponents have shown them disrespect by daring to get in the ring with them and they are going to get arse raped and made a ***** etc etc with all the garbage that usually follows. some boxers have mentaliy`s of 12 year old bully`s in the school playground.
Yes, it was a good interview. Lockett did not say anything that struck me as bull****. He actually sounds like he is appreciative of the opportunity, and wants to make the most of it. I don't think he even has to win in order to impress most of the boxing world. He just needs to make a good showing. Boo
Here's something else Lockett said: "Styles that make great fights, we will go with attacking and effective tactics to win and make an impact." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/7305720.stm I do not know what Lockett's strengths are since I have never seen him fight. However, we all know how Kelly loves to turn the ring into a phone booth and go for broke. This "attack" business sounds like Lockett may be planning on getting right into Pavlik's phone booth with him, and that is NEVER a good idea. Boo
Yep! you're right. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I sure wish we had some clips, or better yet, full fights of Lockett. Maybe a bunch of us here on ESB could petition Team Pavlik to put what they have on you tube! Boo
