Both lacked experience but I would say Jones was prime. Hopkins was prime from like 95-03 imo something like that. You're right that Jones is the only man to beat Hopkins clearly though I felt he looked good not great against Hopkins. Also, Hopkins doesn't get credit for avenging his loss against Jones though we can all agree that Jones was clearly a shell of his previous self. I give Hopkins very minimal credit for that win. Not a "good" win by definition though lol.

Jones w12 Hopkins is a good addition here imo, people act like he hasn't beaten a 160 pound Bernard Hopkins, he has.

People also act like Roy Jones Jr beat the Hopkins that beat Trinidad and he clearly didn't. It's a very good win, but not a great one in my estimation.

Exactly, it's a very good win. Maybe i've just read more posts in different areas to you but the majority of what i've read seems to be on the discrediting side tbh. I rate it myself but i understand the pre-peak argument.

Well I have no sympathy for Roy Jones at all. It may come across as though I dislike the man, but I think he's a great guy and obviously a great fighter. He's my favorite commentator alongside Merchant. That said, as evidenced by my thread from a week ago, Roy Jones is thought to be believed top 5-15 by many, many of our posters. I strongly oppose that ranking. Jones and underrated aren't two words I associate with one another.

Hopkins beating Trinidad often gets discredited too BTW. People say he was a "blown up WW" but that wasn't the case. He beat Reid & Vargas so it's not like he had no experience moving up from WW.

And blew away William Joppy. Trinidad was fine at 160lbs, Hopkins was great.
