Wright has face bigger punchers (Cough Trinidad) at 160 pounds and Trinidad couldn't even land 1 clean punch at Wright. Wright is not the same fighter but neither was Hopkins until Pavlik made Hopkins fight like the old Hopkins. Oh wait Pavlik was very sick going in that fight lol. Oh darn i forgot you put me on ignored.
Pavlik isn't a "one-punch KO" puncher. Pavlik doesn't need to land a particular shot and wipe you out all in one go. It's a Hagler-esque breaking down process. Pavlik backs Winky up with the jab, then bashes up his guard and just keeps busy. Eventually, Winky gets worn down and stopped. If not, he loses a lopsided UD. Pavlik is a much more versatile fighter than people give him credit for. He's actually a very good body puncher. People don't realise this, because they probably only watched him fighting Jermain, where he only needed to do the one-dimensional jab-right hand thing. He only really landed one meaningful body shot in those two fights, which was at the end of the 11th in the second fight. But he can throw to the body, and he can smash your guard apart with hooks. He finished off Miranda with the sweeping, guard-busting left hook, and then the straight right hand. And this will cause Winky problems. Pavlik outworks and wears down Winky. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this followed the fight pattern of Pavlik vs. Rubio.
Not sure at Middle that Trinidad is a harder puncher. P4p he is a harder more explosive puncher. but at 160 he only had 2 fights.(Prime)
Trinidad is also a very good body puncher and still he couldn't do anything to Wright. What Hopkins did to Pavlik was exactly like the way Hopkins easily beat Trinidad. And please don't even compare Rubio to Wright cause i promise you if Pavlik beats Wright, it wouldb't be close of what Pavlik did to Rubio. Style makes fights and Pavlik style is easily tailor made for Wright. I bet when Wright has the fight in the bag going in the 12th round, Loew will say to Pavlik (Double up the "Beep" jab!!!)
At 160 pounds Trinidad still has the power punch. Just ask Joppy when Tito destroyed him. Joppy was the long reigning middleweight champion prior to fighting Trinidad.
Pavlik is tailor made for Wright? Sorry, what? A big, rangy power puncher who fights at a pace close to PW's is tailor made for a short MW with minimal pop who covers up at the slightest sight of pressure? I'd trust that bird in your avatar to make a better call on this fight.
Yeah i know all about Tito. Joppy holding his head in his hand while being interview on HBO said: "His power was devastating" But he was a much harder puncher at 147 especially in his early 20's. another thing is Trinidad was well past prime when he fought Winky.
A lot of the posters on here have only seen Pavlik fight Taylor and Hopkins. A few saw Miranda, and an even smaller number saw Zertuche. There are excpetions, but not many. Yes -- Pavlik is A LOT more versatile than people give him credit for. He knocked Rico Cason, a bigger stronger man, down with a right hand he threw off the back foot, and then finished him with a left hook to the body. He made Zuniga quit after a 9 round war fought mostly on the inside. And how do you explain Miranda? Edison tore through 160 like a tornado. The first Abraham fight should have been ruled Miranda TKO4, but we all know what happened there. Miranda was favored to beat Pavlik by KO. Lampley almost laughed out loud when KP said he was going to back Miranda up. Leow's fight plan was simple; back him up with jabs and left hooks, and batter him with right hands. Edison has not won a meaningful fight since. Taylor was a prime, undefeated, undisputed champ who held 2 wins over one of the best middleweights in history. Pavlik KO7 Taylor. Rematch at 166, and KP scored a clear UD. Hopkins failed twice, and Wright could not win a decision over JT either. KP did. KP went 89-9 in the AMS, and won 4 national championships in 1998 alone. He made the olympic trials at just 17 years of age. But ya - I guess he is really just a one-dimensional plodder, but somehow people who followed his whole ****ing career never noticed.
I love it that you say about the Miranda fight, you know why? Cause you say Hopkins easily beat Pavlik cause Pavlik is injured and very sick but when Pavlik tko Miranda, Miranda wasn't way weight drain going in that fight? Hmmm.
To add to that: Another myth is that Pavlik is a slow robot. I remember catching one of his very early fights on some video site, and his hand-speed was really very good. He was rattling off 5, 6, 7 punch combinations in 1-2 seconds. I guess only now he's matured into a big puncher has he started to be more methodical and steady with his punches.
Miranda didn't look bad in that fight. He was far more drained against AA -- apparently, he weighed 220 lbs (no joke) at the start of training camp for that fight.
Both those fights were on HBO. I'm sure most fanatics who post on this board watch at least the HBO fights. Only A very small few saw the Lockett fight b/c so little people watched it.
