Big guy was tough to take so many kicks and punches and elbows to the head and keep on coming, too bad the little man was tougher, and far more skilled. where's the headbutts this is the art of "9" limbs right. I found the replays with the sound effect amusing. seen a good highlight video of Lethwei with overly loud soundeffects all though it. By the way would you know the name of the winner by chance? would like to look him up.
Good scrap alright. There must have been a significant weight advantage in favour of the tall guy. Just love those whiplash sound effects on the action replays
About the weight guys, it depends as there are two strands of Lethwei fights that currently take place regulalry. The newer more international version has I think around 10 or 12 weight classes, but the old skool version has none. Both strands are popular. Yeah the sound effects are just as good as anything you'll find in any classic HK movie! The Shaw bros come to mind!

Thanks for introducing me to Tway Ma Shaung. I spent a while watching his fights on youtube the other day. Who are some of the better defensive fighters, boran? Especially when it comes to punches. I know that side to side head movement is dangerous due to the head kick, so I was curious to how a good counter striker has to adapt.
I'm not a hardcore follower of Lethwei only really MT, so I couldn't tell you about the current crop pf Burmese fighters. I just causally follow it and I'm a fan of Tway cos of his very MT style. I find alot of the Lethwei fighters a bit wild, loose and ragged. I think that's why the organised and stylish Tway does so well. Interms of countering the punch the straight knee is kryptonite. It's faster than a punch, packs way more power and if timed corectly the puncher can't see it coming. Also the reason a boxers ducking and bobbing isn't advised. The other basic counter to a puncher is obviosly just as the puncher is set to punch or has thrown the punch when all his weight is on the lead leg slam his planted lead leg with a heavy kick. Those are the two most basic counters, hope that answers you question. (Not sure if that's what you meant. I've written a few more in depth posts about countering in the MT/Kickboxing ATG thread.)
I'm sorry, I was looking for Muay Thai fighters renowned for their defense and/or countering abilities. Muay Thai is the only Indochinese martial art that I am familiar with, but I don't know a lot more than someone who has just watched Kickboxer. I would not be able to point out any differences in technique between Muay Thai and Lethwei any more than I could between Muay Thai and kickboxing in Laos or Muay Thai and Muay Boran. They're all foreign to me.
For MT defensive wizards check out: Current: Sam-A and Seanchai. Past: Karuhat, Somluck and Samart but there are many many. I'd say these guys would be obvious to most lists. A few to be getting on with, but MT is different to say boxing where you find counter specialist. In MT countering is crucial to be a rounded fighter so countering is a major part of the art particulaly against the kick. Here's a great fight from the 90s between the above mentioned Karuhat (Black) and a personal fav of mine Boonlai Sor Thanikul (Red).
