Tomorrow is the 40th anniversary of the death of Salvador Sanchez. This made me think about what other great fighters died too young.

What fighters do you think we lost too soon?

So many…I’ll just volunteer The Maitland Wonder, Les Darcy to kick it off.

Masao Ohba, also died in his 20's in a car accident. Gilberto Roman died that way too, a few years older.

The takeaway here is that fighters shouldn't drive.

Sanchez is the yardstick for this subject and I'd add Edwin Valero. It would have been also interesting to see if Davey Moore could have rebounded from that beating Duran gave him had he not been killed, he was still very young. Though they didn't die two fighters who killed their careers and denied the boxing fans some great fights were Tony Ayala and Ike Ibeabuchi .

I hope he doesn't just mean the deadly scenario.

Riddick Bowe - Retired at 29. His "second career" is not worth mentioning.

Gerald McClellan - I don't want to mention.

Filipino boxer Pancho Villa was only 23 years old when he died from complications of a tooth extraction.

Harry Greb was 32 when he died of heart failure.

Is it fighters that died young for their age or whilst still actively fighting?

Lemuel Steeples and the rest of the U.S. team that perished in a plane crash en route to a competition in Poland in 1980.

Not every top U.S. amateur was on that trip but we basically lost a pretty major part of an entire generation (one per weight class).
