Everybody keeps telling me what a great fight this was but I just don't see it. Watched it three times already:

True here as Pryor and his corner man Panama Lewis cheated and cost Arguello being the first 4 division champ.

Now, hang on, I started this thread in good faith but what you've just posted is nothing short of sacrilege! In the name of everything that is right and holy, how can you not like this all-time classic?! The mind boggles. I'm off to watch my Johnny Nelson boxset to calm down.

A lot of recent "greats", like Inoue-Donaire and Joshua-Klitschko. Inoue by and large dominated. Donaire landed far too few clean shots for it to qualify as great. Joshua-Klitschko was two big stiffs mostly jabbing at each other. Don't get me wrong there was some solid action in certain rounds and it had drama, but there was far too little consistent back and forth.

Sigh. I better watch it again. There's obviously something I'm missing. Some technical aspect that eludes me.

Nelson and De Leon usually knock me out by the eighth, though.

I could watch Pavlik/Taylor and Hamed/Kelley again and again but agree with the other two. Kelley's fights with Alejandro Gonzalez and Derrick Gainer were even better than the Hamed fight though I thought.

    Bowe/Holyfield 1.
A good fight for heavyweights but not quite among the very best. After the 1st round you just sensed Bowe was in control..Riddick was putting it on Evander more and more each round. Holyfied landed punches and had that great rally in the 10th but he just couldn't hurt Riddick Bowe.

That for me took much of the drama out of it. Their 2nd fight is better.

Their second is a little underrated in my view. Much closer but still top notch quality-wise.

Well, look at it this way - at least they managed to knock someone out.

Some fights might be good or even very good but not as great as the history books like to tell us - but it’s still all subjective at the end of the day.

Foreman v Lyle. No. Far too primitive. Give me the skilled shoot out between Liston v Williams any day.

The Thrilla in Manila. No. Read all about it before seeing it - the write ups promised a greater fight imo. I’ll take the FOTC, that much more epic and near enough to prime v prime. Completely lived up to its billing and all superlatives afforded to the actual fight.

The fight with Dorsey is my favourite.
