I remember that; billed as some pun on high noon, I am pretty sure it was called off a few days before; certainly the fighters did not weigh in.
I think Hide was in good enough form at the time, to beat The Duke. And I think Bruno would of outpointed Mercer, as Ray was going through a slump at the time. And your picks?
Real good match ups matey...dunno ? I was interested to read this...i followed the sport pretty close during that era but honestly dont recall that situation. Frank only really lost when he was put in with the best... Mercer was very capable at his best...you could make a case for both...the percentage call maybe slightly Bruno....but if the fight went deep maybe Mercer more durable...genuine 50-50..a great match up. Hide an enigma for me...better boxer than Morrison..but Tommy could punch, again fine match up..50-50.
Wasn't Steve Collins also supposed to be fighting on that Hong Kong bill, against somebody like John David Jackson?

I think originally he might of been, but Jackson pulled out and Lonnie Beasley was brought in. The only fight that got rescheduled and happened was the other 'world' title fight on the bill: Schwer/Rafael Ruelas.
I never will understand why we never saw foreman vs tyson, they both would have won a lot of money in this fight and i think that tons of fans wanted this fight, 2 killer punchers, it would have been interesting because stylistical motives, foreman was no larry holmes, we would have watched a great exchange of bombs here.
Funny like foreman did repeat it in tons onf interviews, that he would have stopped tyson in 2 rounds, i am not saying that it was a fact because he said it.. But he looked very sure of himself saying that, he did comment it in special programs with ali and frazier , in places where it has nothing to do with this topic. All i know is that foreman was by far a much bigger risk and challenge for tyson than larry holmes was
at 167 spinks would be all bone and skin.. And hagler a ball of fat.. Simply they had very different natural size, spinks was much bigger he would have destroyed hagler
At the weight stipulated I think Hagler wins fairly easily. He might come in a few pounds over 160, but not much more. And as you rightly suggest Spinks would have a hell of a time boiling down to 167/8.
