I really dont care how he turned over a quid, i suppose it wasnt all through boxing, he's a celebrity in his own right, the fact is, his promotors, agents etc etc have been very astute, & i'm sure the dollars have been coming in steadily , he owns a cafe or something also i believe.

Even if the recent fights havent been as lucrative as the early ones, i'm sure they have still made money, & thats the thing, he's accepted smaller amounts whilst staying at home away from the likes of Don King, away from the boxers who could seriously hurt & humiliate him, as much as i admire the likes of Katsides for being a warrior, i believe putting himself through what he does is foolhardy, naively seeking glory in a sport that really doesnt give it

Then you have the likes of Kostya Tszyu who managed to unify a division for the first time in 30-odd years, gain the respect of all of his peers both in and out of the boxing ring, and make a fortune out of his career while retiring with his faculties intact and never having to trash talk a single one of his opponents, or talk **** in the media to increase his profile...oh, he also travelled to fight too.

I guess Mundine knew he didn't have the talent or heart, or perhaps even the desire, to do what Tszyu did.

If he wasn't the son of an already accomplished and known boxer in Tony Mundine, and if he hadn't started making waves while still playing for St George in the NRL, he wouldn't have had a fraction of the attention he received when he switched to boxing.

Good point the likes of Tszyu,Fennech,Famechon,Rose, and even further back to Darcy were respected all over the World, they consistently fought the best and were not afraid to travel or fight anyone in front of them, they all have the respect of knowledgable Boxing Fans all over the World, what a way to retire.!!!!

Huggers like to tell anyone who'll listen that Mundine saved boxing in Oz.

There wouldn't be much boxing going on if all fighters adopted Mundine's highest gain for lowest risk strategies.
Running his own shows put him in a priviliged position and he milked it for all it was worth.
But his lowest act is giving his undercard fighters a handful of tickets to sell in lieu of wages. { but look at the exposure they're getting ]
Bit like Woollies and Coles giving their employees a box of groceries each week to flog off to the neighbours.

Don King couldn't teach these blokes anything. Bernie Madoff would be proud of them.

lets face it, the blokes who get something out of boxing are few & far between, sure there are some, but there are a lot more that walk out of it with the arse out of their strides & whole assortment of woes

Yes, but those blokes can look themselves in a mirror and say "they left it in the ring", and also have the respect of people for giving it their all.

9 out of 10 people wouldn't **** on Mandy if he were on fire!

I know the huggers will all jump up and say "it's about the $", but if your genuine about trying to acheive anything in life, it's about the doing your absolute best and if you, or whatever it is you are doing are good enough, you'll earn $. This would of been exactly the same if it were Mandy actually facing the best when in actual fact, early on had world-class skills in which to really make a name for himself internationally I believe.

Success and respect are far more measured than bottom-line ppv figures and masquerading interim, regular or IBO titles as world-titles.

The whole career of Mandy, bar one or two points has been a sham, nothing more and nothing less.

Appreciate what you are trying to say above Ash, but the bottom line is Mundine kept fighting bums, and people kept paying to watch.

That they continued with the mismatches shows they were making enough money to continue with them - people needed to break that cycle by simply refusing to pay for substandard matchups - the result would have been a compulsory step-up or retirement.

The wool was unquestionably pulled over the eyes of the Australian public who continued to pay for the mismatches - that much cannot be argued.

who cares about respect in boxing in Australia, its a nothing sport, it doesnt really rate, Mundine could slink into oblivion tomorrow, with a good quid, his friends & family & not too hurt...happy days

or he can hang around, still get invited here, there & everywhere & nobody will even know who the decent boxers are, he'll still make more money than all the bigwigs, just from being "the man"

Dont get me wrong, i dont even like the bloke, i'm, just stating the cold hard facts

Mate chocs last few PPV were poor in numbers.....I still dont understand who choc ripped off :huh

He put on average cards and fights and got poor numbers back...that proved it failed.....nobody had the wool pulled over the eyes because nobody showed up besides fans and haters...the fans and haters knew what they were getting.

If 35,000 people bought the fight then you may have a point but it didnt get close to that so not sure what your talking about mate.
