He's my great uncle, although I never actually met him. I also didn't find out about him until i started boxing at 13. There is a book about him which I don't own, but have read. Some good stories about the old boxing boothes in it.
From what I've heard I do believe he's a nice guy, but he's still by no means a great. In recent terms he's been one of Scotland's success stories, but when you look at the whole history of Scottish boxing, can you really say he's up there. To be honest i thought there quite a few mentioned in the post I quoted that are by no means greats of Scottish boxing, but certainly have done well in recent times.
This has got me thinking...maybe one for the classic forum Has a Scotsman ever won a world title or a portion of a world title (WBC,IBF,WBO,WBA) in a division over lightweight?
He was a classic one hit wonder Gaz, sparked the brummie red hot favourite Elcock spectacularly & did **** all else! what a punch though [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWFjsL5dYBw[/ame]
On a domestic level I'm sure Drew Docherty was good in his day, although I don't know how highly he ranks amongst al time Scottish fighters.
