As superb a list as this is, Hank himself flatly stated that he could never have beaten Robby, even at Armstrong's best. (Of course that can be dismissed as merely the traditional courtesy of the times. One wonders though just how much of SRR's P4P reputation can be traced to Henry's emphatic and gushing declaration following their fight.)
Duran? That's odd, seems kind of hypocritical considering your point made later on about losses. Monzon? What case does he have at all? Honestly, make one, because I can't even see a case being made. Firstly, that's a load of bull****. Secondly, Duran is always at the top of lists, so get your facts straight before spouting off nonsense. Yeah, Armstrong sure did lose a lot in the 3 year span where he won 3 titles in 3 weight divisions(should've been 4 if not for the robbery against Garcia), going 59-1-1 with 50 KO's.
First of all, that just isn't true, he was not much more dominant than any of those fighters. Second of all, you're discrediting Robinson for only winning titles at two weight classes and then crediting Monzon for saying he "could have" won at 168 and 175? Really, you'd have picked him over Foster at 175? Monzon rates very high, but there were plenty of guys with similar dominance and better resumes. Robinson's resume is still much greater overall, and he did fight at 175 against Maxim in a fight he was dominating before succcumbing to the heat. Also, he beat greats while past his prime in much the same way Duran did, except greater fighters(as guys like Moore and Barkley weren't great) and more often. Perhaps because Mayweather never won 3(should've been 4) titles in 4 different weight classes, and never had a resume like Armstrong's. It couldn't be done in the modern era? What does it matter? He did it then, and who are you to say it couldn't be done anyway? Noone thought it could be done then either. Toney can win from MW to HW, Oscar from 130-160, but there's no way someone can win from 126-160?
He's clearly not above Greb resume-wise. Greb, Armstrong, Robinson, Langford, Ali, Charles, Duran, Leonard, Ross, B. Leonard. There's 10, not including a few others. The unparalleled Barkley effort? Look through the history of many fighters careers, there have been performances to match this one, especially considering the fact that Barkley is not exactly a great fighter, not even close really. The Duran at Lightweight had a good resume, but nowhere near good enough to be considered the best of all time. He was a great fighter, and is often ranked among the best ever, but no way does he have a claim for the #1 spot. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl Robinson probably would have beaten them all, Benitez being the hardest stylistic matchup. Robinson would most likely have beaten Armstrong at welterweight, but then this isn't a welterweight list.
He had a few. Obviously the KO of Fullmer stands out. I consider him post-prime after the Turpin fights, though still an excellent fighter for a while. He started to become less consistent, with both wins and losses to top guys like Basilio and the afore-mentioned Fullmer. Also holds wins over Bobo Olson, Rocky Graziano, Denny Moyer, etc.
