Was a 10 fight Clay better than a seasoned journeyman Tillis? I'm saying yes he was and more likely tougher at that age too. I think Clays strength is overlooked, I don't think he would be bullied at all tbh. He had the speed to land first and often and would beat Tyson on points in my opinion.

He definitely wasn't better than Tillis at that point.

Clay weighed 193 lb for his 10th fight.

Tyson would beat him senseless. It's an unfair match-up in the first place, Tyson was pretty much a grown man at that point while Clay was a teenager.

I don't think so. Tillis was a good, tough fringe contender with loads of experience.

Clay was a huge talent obviously but on paper he probably wasn't quite as good as Tillis yet. Prospects improve a lot fight after fight.

I have Clay, Tyson at 10 fights didn't move his head like he did a few years later his chin would be nice and lined up for a big punch.

Ali's body seemed to really develop unusually late for a pro boxer.

Tyson was a physical phenom early on. This is a good thread, and a tough call!

Tyson....he'd hit Clay so hard he'd be wishing he could take a left hook from Enery Cooper.

Early Tyson over early Clay. Later on, the other way around.

Even as an Ali fan, I have to say Tyson fairly early.
