That stoppage for the St Clair fight was atrocious. I hope something gets done about that, a review or something, at the least his corner should have toweled it.. Was very hard to watch it go on.. Green looked good. Very relaxed as has been said, one of the more standout improvements in my opinion is his head movement. He saw the punches coming very well and stepped out of that robot stance several times to great effect. Good work. Frankie vs Robbie was fantastic! Great fight. Kicked still dropping his hands... Good performance though off the back of that KO.
it was only a matter of time for gairy to be stopped, hes been in soo many hard fights lately were he jsut wasnt a match.... well done action jackson... who did kicket fight? and who did wills fight? not interested in the green fight we all knew the result before the fighters walked into the ring...
Thats one thing i was thinking while watching the fight, ive never seen Green use his head that much(apart from the beyer fight) but his movement, slipping was crafty, unexpected... well done Hyder?
Step 1 in place for Danny - could have done with a few more rounds. Still, he's blown away the cobwebs. There was an interesting short interview in the Herald Sun yesterday with Nina. She said she thought he was trying to stooge her when he talked about the retirement, and from day one she nagged him to keep fighting ie not retire. She admitted that she never let up on him about fighting on.
I went to the fight last night. Let me start by saying that it was a very poorly organised affair. 100 cops there and every punter had to go through a metal detector and then get serached with the wand. The stadium only filled up towards the end of the Willie Kickett fight. Some people i talked to were lined up for nearly 2 hours. Disgraceful considering the avg ticket was $90. Got in half way through Willsys' fight , and by the time I got sorted with a beer only got to see the last round so can't comment on that one. Bryant v De Porto definatley the fight of the night. Dissapointed that Robbie lost as I train at the same gym with him. Amazing that he lost a split decision in his home town, whats with that, he got the knock down on Frank in the 3rd and I thought that would get him over the line. Willie looked good, very aggresive and worked behind his jab effectivley but as others have said, still dropping his hands and will get caught if he comes up against a decent counter puncher. The Indo guy he fought had a very tight defense, Willie didnt land too many clean shots. Still got owned though. Gairy can't pull the trigger anymore. Askiu moved very well, although he threw some wild lead uppercuts early which left him wide open for a counter right hand. I thought Gairy would have had the ringsmarts to use the opening but didn't happen. Sambo1987, fully agree with your comment on the stoppage. Gairy just managed to get back up at 9 and looked amazed when the ref allowed it to continue. Thats how fighters get hurt, and its the ref's job to protect the boxer. Disgarceful. Greens fight was the joke of the night. I don't know what the point of that was. Van Neikerk looked terrible, this is a guy who fights at 73-76kg. He was carrying all the extra weight around his gut. Doesn't earn Danny any respect. Why a former WBA world champion can't or won't fight against a top 20 boxer is beyond me. Did nothing to promote his cause amongst the boxing community, however the bulk of the crowd (whom listening to the conversations going on pretty much new nothing about boxing) lapped it up. So all inall the lead up fights were worth the ticket price but unfortunately 50% of the crowd didn't get to see them because of the poor setup.
The implementation of the increased security measures is a good thing, but it's gotta be executed in a manner that allows patrons to actually see the entertainment! Pi5s poor by the sound of it. Reminds me of a fight night at Festival Hall (Melb) a few years ago. There was a pat-the-body type search at the door - this potentially may have angered some of the hard heads attending -but the clever thing was they had a woman doing it, and blokes couldn't get to her quick enough to be searched!!
Hey mate, St Clair was totally gone, he was doing a kinda crab walk to get up and was in all sorts of trouble. Once on his feet he clearly could not go on. It is a rare sight these days where a fighter looking in so much trouble is left in the centre to be set upon by his oponent. Can anyone confirm for me whether St. Clair was given a count???? I cant recall it at all....my memroy tells me that the ref looked stunned at St. Clairs attemps to get up and then once up, then held him up!!!!! It took a very long time form the knockdown till the ref called box.
Man, the doctor had already made his way into the ring... In between arguing with Briggsy and tellin the doctor to get out he (the ref) was, like you said, holding Gairy up! A ****ing disgrace. The whole pub was wincing when it was allowed to go on. But to answer your question, I believe there was a count in there somewhere to everyones disbelief.. Even when the guy was rolling around like a spastic on the floor.
Briggsy the commentator, telling the doctor to get out??? What ****ing business has he got doing that....
Hey mate, got a photo of the line if you wanna see it. How do you get a picture up on here??? Van Neikerk had Greens name across his waist band on his shorts...WTF...did he forget his own, very strange to be sporting your oponents name Green in green on your own shorts.
No, sorry bit unclear, Briggsy was telling the ref off as he was letting it go on, he was definatley not against the doctor getting in the ring.
