"It's another opportunity to solidify my legacy in the sport of world boxing" - Danny Green. (watch the seagulls rip into this one) Danny Green believes he can cement his place in boxing history by Adrian Warren - FOX Sports - 17th May 2011 Danny Green believes he can cement his place in boxing historywith victory over Antonio Tarver in the IBO cruiserweight title fight in Sydney on July 20. "It's another opportunity to solidify my legacy in the sport of world boxing, not just here in Australia," Green said as he and Tarver promoted the fight on Tuesday. "I did that firstly with Roy Jones Jr. "I was a 5-1 underdog and now with Antonio Tarver, the first man to knock out Roy Jones Jr." Green, the IBO crusierweight champion, admitted to being concerned by the taller American's physique after meeting him for the first time. "His size is obviously pretty imposing, physically he's imposing, but his credentials, his experience and his skill are even more imposing," Green said. "Combine that with the power that he's going to possess because of the extra size he is going to have over me, it's a pretty daunting task." Tarver, meanwhile, believes he must knock-out Green to secure victory in their world title fight. Tarver, who has held numerous light-heavyweight world titles, arrived in Australia on Tuesday for a national promotional tour. Fighting overseas for the first time in his long professional career, Tarver said fighting abroad was now "sexy". "I'm not preparing to go 12 rounds I'm looking to get him out of there man," Tarver said. "It's like I'm 42-years-old, I can't be rasslin with this guy for 12 rounds, you know what I mean? "I'm looking to work that body early, I'm looking to test his chin early and I'm hoping that he falls before 12 rounds."
i think he was implying that people would shoot down greens comments that all he says is trash especially the stuff concerning rjj, but i cant really see anything bad in that article, of course hes going to keep reminding the public about his win over rjj it keeps him relevant to the media and stays fresh in their minds as it was such an upset. surprisingly he and tarver have been respectful and chivalrous towards each other, which is the opposite of what i expected from both considering they had such a tough time putting the fight together. Its good to see a lot of mutual respect from both guys and tarver is extremely likeable when hes acting this way
I'd like to know who is on greens radar after tarver.it's like his climbing for the big one.like the yanks are getting pissed that his floggen them.it would be interesting if he goes for Hopkins.
Very suprised re Tarver's lack of trash talk. The Magic Man has a major motor mouth and is usually big on giving his opponents a godbful (check out on you tube the press conferences for his fight with Clinton Woods) but downunder has has come across as a class act with real respect for Green. If the fight is anything like Tarver's two encounters with Glen Johnson, we may have a humdinger on our hands! If it is anything like his fights against Bad Chad, it will be a snoozefest!
Antonio Tarver set to earn This content is protected to fight Danny Green in Sydney by Nick Walshaw - Courier Mail - 18th May 2011 ANTONIO Tarver will be paid $1.5 million to fight in Sydney, making him Australian boxing's richest import since Roy Jones Jr was KO'd in 122 seconds back in late 2009. This content is protected Tarver, who flew into Sydney yesterday for a whirlwind promotional tour, is set to receive seven figures when he faces IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on July 20. While the purse is well short of the $2.5 million Green Machine Promotions paid out for Jones, it embarrasses the $30,000 pay days Anthony Mundine has handed to recent opponents from Argentina, Uruguay and Japan. Undoubtedly the greatest earner in Aussie boxing history, Mundine has also dropped outside the magic million mark for fights, with his bout against Cronulla's Ryan Waters last year selling only 5000 pay-per-views. New Zealand rugby star Sonny Bill Williams makes $200,000 per bout while rising Australian middleweight Garth Wood, whose profile skyrocketed after winning The Contender series, has earned almost $1 million in two fights with Mundine. Russian middleweight Roman Karmazin also received a decent wage when he fought new IBF world champion Daniel Geale last October, heading home after five days in hospital with about $200,000. "But if you're bringing a marquee fighter to Australia, you've gotta pay for it," says Green, whose own pay cheque will rely heavily on ticket and Main Event sales. "I'm not going to reveal purse details but I will say I'm investing a lot in this fight. I've put a helluva lot on the line. "And it's because I want to bring superstars to Australia, give the Australian public some great fights. Against Roy Jones Jr, I was a 5-1 underdog and I think there are a few people out there who seem to have forgotten that." Asked about criticism of Tarver, now 42 and boasting only three fights in as many years, the West Australian said: "There isn't a fighter in the cruiserweight division he wouldn't beat when he's on. "Ring magazine rated him Light Heavyweight of the Decade. That's not a bad rap, is it?" Green's trainer Angelo Hyder said Tarver's resume was "like that of a UFC fighter". "Because he hand-picks his opponents now, he only fights the best," Hyder said. "Tarver has made enough from boxing that he's already set financially." While neither Green nor Tarver has been knocked out, both predict that very result for a bout tagged "Judgment Day". "I'm not preparing to go 12 rounds," Tarver said in Sydney yesterday. "I'm looking to get him out of there, man. "I'm 42 years old so I can't be rasslin' with this guy for 12 rounds." Fighting overseas for the first time, Tarver added that Green deserved to be favourite because "he has the title and I'm coming to his backyard". "But I'm an underdog at heart, the real Rocky story when you look at my career," he said.
I like this fight but it better go longer than one round  It was great when Green got the TKO over RJJ in round one but my second thought was geez I'd be pissed if I payed all that money for front row tickets for a round one TKO. Then Briggs balls up, another round one :verysad we don't need another one that's for sure...
I read that second article in the tele today. What a load of rubbish about Karmazin getting 200k. If he got 200k for that fight then Grange would not have broken even. I think its a fair call from Green. I mean really who has bought out 2 big names like RJJ and Antonio Tarver to Australia? The heavier division carry more weight in terms of public interest. Its hard for the everyday man to relate to a 55-65kg fighter. And Green promotes his own shows. He is not just riding on the back of someone.
