If they blow up too much inbetween fights thats there problem, they are professional athletes and should not put themselves in a position to have to cut so much weight. Talk of retirement is absolute nonsense.
Don't know about your strategy for groves, that relies on him knocking out every single person he fights at world level before the 7th round. Highly unlikely he can do that, he'd be better off just pacing himself.
really good article. I liked Groves but his attitude and arrogance the past couple of years has put me off. Seems open, honest and humble - hopefully it isn't just PR Think he has a long way back, hopefully he can get the right trainer and have another go
There's little to no chance of McCracken coaching Groves, he's best pals with Froch and I'm sure Carl was his best man. Probably needs to go over to the States and build himself up there.
I understand what you are saying and you are right the strategy would depend on him getting the job done before say 8 rounds, however, I think the pacing himself is what he has done since the 1st Froch fight and I maintain that his performance in the first Froch fight was probably his best by some way. Of course if you meet a chin and guts like Froch everyfight you fight that way you are in trouble, however, not sure there are that many fighters out there who have those ingredients, still it's just a theory, I realise he would never actually fight like that but I would love to see him give it a go, it sure ain't working the way it is.
Maybe just maybe it is the simple fact that groves is just not as good as he thinks he is. Sure that leprechaun didn't help him, but even with Adam Booth I don't think he would have helped groves organic problems, which seems to be overconfidence in his own abilities along with his tendency to gas early in fights and lastly having a suspect chin.
Yea I thought so. Trouble is with the new trainer business is the people GG mentioned I don't think would be a good fit McCracken I rate but with the Olympics coming up 2016 and Froch history I would be speechless if that came off. Shane McGuigan priority is Frampton Freddie Pac and Cotto but Pac Man looking at retirement and Cotto near the end could there be a space. Although Freddie has other fighters. Tony Sims cant see Groves fitting in with the current stable. Virgil Hunter would be my pick but I am at a loss on how that would work out. For me the only way I can see Groves comming back is via the WBO route I know Murray is facing AA can anyone see Groves taking on the winner via Sauerland ? For me Groves should split from Sauerland and go Stateside and completely rebuild but my concern is it will be an attempt at a short quick fix.
I'm not just saying this but that first fight was probably Carls worst ever performance. I knew he can't be as bad in the second plus he was so much more focus. However I do have to credit Groves on his antics in the build up to the first fight. They clearly worked and really rattled Carl. This was never the same in the build up to the second fight though and I thought Carl won that battle which may have affected the result in the end
Where does the glass jaw theory come from? Froch hit him with an absolute atom bomb and he still tried to get up!! Froch is known as having bricks in both hands too. Groves in the first Froch fight battered him from pillar to post prior to an awful stoppage. Second fight he tried to outbox Froch and let him establish the jab, the fight was even on the cards prior to the KO. His last fight went to points!! People make out he has been outclassed and outgunned everytime he stepped up. He also has a win over Degale, half the posters in this thread have posted on another today saying how he may now be the man at 168!!! Im not a huge fan of Groves, he is ginger for starters and his suits are straight out a charity shop but he is a world level fighter who is entertaining to watch.
I'm doing you a favour as people now think you talk more sense :yep:yep:yep Everything for a reason hey SOL
