Wasting your time with this crowd. No sense even telling them how an obscure MMA fighter(Matt Brown) started doing Strongman oriented conditioning training and has been on a six fight win streak and set for a title eliminator fight. So many tools available to assist fighters but get overlooked out of ignorance.
So floyd mayweather needs to be a better athlete to become a better boxer? Did you know that Joe Fraizer absolutely tanked on all these fitness tests against athletes but I never saw the dude gassed in the ring and he pushed a much better athlete in ali all the way. Some people have a too simplistic idea of boxing conditioning. As an example I imagine the best way to train to be able to throw a thousand punches in a fight is to actually throw thousands of punches in training and not do thousands of push ups etc. Surely the best way to develop boxing core strength is to spar heavier fighters instructing them to use their weight.
"crossfit" isn't the best term to describe the kind of resistance training I think is good for a boxer. Sure on the surface it might look like crossfit but that's because it shares a few weight lifting movements. I think the best kinds of resistance training for boxers are; complexes, circuits and combinations, the three Cs probably HIIT too.
I'm not buying the "couldn't do a pullup" part. There is zero fuucking way. None. Grown man, low bodyweight, and an athlete. It's got to be bull****, and Crossfit is known for propaganda bull**** to make themselves sound legit.
This might actually be a good all around core strengthening Workout that could prove useful for him and others. It doesn't look All too bad but I guess we'll see the results soon If positive then more boxers should use it
:deal Well hey he wants to be a cross fitter by all means he will never beat a seasoned guy like Maywetaher who has never been a cross fitter !
Crossfit is great for conditioning and establishing core strength. Its something that can only help Robert as long as it doesn't interfere with his boxing camp. Crossfit should be incorporated before boxing camp if that's something you want to bring in. I think this will help Guerrero.
I think you're the one with far too simplistic idea, you categorise things into all or nothing. Sprint intervals for example are beneficial to stamina and therefore boxing, but there are plenty of ATGs who never did sprints. Is that to say sprints is useless for boxing?
Floyd already IS a good athlete. As for Joe Frazier, yes, he looked awful in those fitness tests. Are you saying that if he had been a better athlete it would have had a negative impact on his fighting ability? If you made Frazier, stronger, fitter, faster...it would somehow have had a negatiove impact on him? Besides, in Fraziers time, he was fighting against other fighters who also were training the same way as him. Why are boxing fans the only fans that seem to think that training the way people did in tje 70s is fine and that we shouldnt change?? NO OTHER SPORT THINKS LIKE THAT!!! I mean imagine telling Le Bron James,"The only way to prepare for basketball is to play basketball" Or telling an NFL linebacker or rugby back rower that he should just "play their sport and tackle a lot"
For the last f'in time, this isnt about crossfit. Its about pro athletes who cant do an f'in pull up, and who dont have core strength and are basically terrible physical specimens. Do you think its ok for an elite level athlete in 2014 to have never had a strength program?? Who is afriad to do weights because it will "slow him down". Its like talking to someone from the 30s!
Listening to some people here is like the boxing version of this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4CXY6TVBMc
