Guerrero will give Mayweather his toughest fight in several years

I see Guerrero having success boxing Floyd, using the jab and right hook to the body. Honestly i feel that if Floyd doesnt become the aggressor and walk The Ghost down, he will be at a disadvantage, allowing Guerrero to switch gears as he pleases, boxing and ambushing Floyd. I think Floyd will attempt to cut the ring off by using his left hook and lead right but will be cautious and study Guerrero to see what type of game-plan hes bringing. Guerrero will give Floyd a different look nearly every rd, jabbing and moving, forcing Floyd to make the first move. Then we'll see Guerrero come out fast, pushing Floyd around, non-stop combinations on the inside. I wouldnt be surprised if the boxing process lasts a few rds due to Guerrero having success landing his left to the body or up top surprising him with his own speed and timing.

Floyd will be forced to make this a toe-to-toe battle. He has to get off first and use his speed to beat Guerrero to the punch. Its gonna be tricky for him to get past Guerreros jab/right hand while avoiding that straight left from Guerrero, which is also thrown at different angles. If Guerrero can deal with Floyds speed and not drown in Floyds high pace tempo, use Floyds aggression against him and keep him guessing of whats coming next, then The Ghost has a reall good chance of dethroning the man they call Money Mayweather.

Guerrero isnt special in any one area. He can punch well with both hands, is fundamentally skilled, knows how to work the body, up top, throw hooks and uppercuts, fight on the inside and out, double and triple up on the jab, counter-punch, he does it all. Hes got speed and power at 147, is likely physically as strong and most importantly, hes mentally strong. This guy is hungry as ever and tough as nails. Is that enough for The Ghost to pull off the upset? We'll soon find out. Just dont be surprised when you see Money going toe-to-toe, hand-for-hand with someone who was supposed to take an ass-whooping and be completely outclassed.

How did cotto look his best in the middle of the ring?

 

I hope you are right. Even though Cotto lost, I found that fight to be exciting. Easily Mayweather's most exciting in years.

Boxing needs to deliver when it is on the big stage. Last year it did twice. The sport doesn't need any more Mayweather snoozers.

 

When they faced off boxing in the center and Cotto fought off the back foot, Floyd couldnt catch him. He was visibly frustrated at Cottos movement, eating jabs and unable to land his own shots. Cotto almost looked slick in there at times

 

Stopped reading after you said Guerrero has speed and power at 147. People are not looking at Guerrero as a whole. They're just basing him largely off his Berto fight. They based Ortiz chances off of the Berto fight too.

 

You're referring to one exchange in particular at the end of round 5 or 6. But are missing the other 3rd of the fight where Floyd was absolutely painting Cotto with shots in the center of the ring. atsch

Danny Garcia vs Amir Khan, Josesito Lopez vs Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero vs Andre Berto are all perfect examples of underdogs who dont do anything special, but have good fundamentals, good chins and hearts of a warrior, taking out the guys who were too fast or too strong. Floyds only advantage in this fight vs Guerrero is hes too smart. But if Floyd promises excitement, hes going to take a punch or two that he shouldnt have.

Sorry, G but i honestly can't see it.

And i dont like the Cotto comparison neither, since Cotto is bigger, and much more skilled than Guerrero, not too mention that the fight took place at 154lbs.

Guerrero is nothing special.

 

But look who those underdogs were going up against.

Khan? Ortiz? Berto?

 

Floyd landed some killer right hooks but that was when Cotto was trying to get inside, not when he was boxing off the backfoot, drawing Floyd in and counter punching him. The jab alone stopped Floyd in his tracks from coming forward.

 

Garcia has power, loops his shots and punches with his opponent, Khan kryptonite. Lopez has power to keep you honest and heart (plus a bit of luck with cracking Ortiz's jaw), Ortiz kryptonite. This is not about underdog ****, there are very specific reasons that those two lost those fights.
