FINALLY! Will inactivity finally bite Jones in the ass? he has all of 3 fights in the last 5 1/2 years :yikes I'm still picking him to beat up Lebedev
Not to mention that his last fight was 1 1/2 years ago, and those 3 fights that you mentioned were against C-level fighters pretty much. Lebedev has fought twice last year against a good boxer on the rise in Silgado, the 3 fight stretch with Jones-Toney-Cox wasn't really that impressive. Lebedev is 8 years younger and 21 fights younger, and I think that Jones' advantage in experience is neutralized by his inactivity. However Lebedev showed in his last fight that he can be outboxed with speed, movement and a nice jab. I am favoring Lebedev.
Ring rust against a dangerous guy like Lebedev is not good, because all he needs is for you take make one mistake and he's a destroyer.
Lebedev has great hands and very strong. An active boxer tough as nails. His last fight - Silgado didn't show up to win I believe, the knock out shots just confirmed his intentions.
Lebedev, easy, IMO. He's probably the best CW in the division. He easily beat Huck. (**** Eddie Cotton. - I'm STILL angry about that fight.) I think the big question is Lebedev's conditioning & endurance. Can Jones test him by taking him into the late rounds?
Guillermo Jones is the closest thing we have in boxing to James toney from 10 years ago although age and inactivity are the biggest factors against him now. Actually i can see this fight turning out to be like Toney vs Jirov if Jones is in shape and focused which is the big question mark in the fight. My prediction is therefore: JONES by late stoppage if he's mentally and physically focused. or LEBEDEV by easy points UD in a rather laboured boring fight if Jones is just there for one last payday.
Yes I did actually... I'm not a **** who comments on fights i don't watch. :tired He was fairly tentative despite superior skill. The Slick elusive defense and jab wore off. Unbeaten Silgado had 90% KO rate until he fought Lebedev. You would expect 7 time national champion Silgado to be the better boxer and he was dominating the pace but he didn't want to mix with Lebedev. His rights had no power just to keep Denis away. After the body shot Denis went landed uppercut. He just laid flat down refused to get up. I don't think Silgado wanted to get up and win it.
Jones' inactivity will not bother him, it never has. Guillermo is one of the most underrated fighters of the last 15 years. He is tall and long for this division and has incredible timing and mechanics. He has proven he can box aggressive fighters using his jab and ability to judge space, or can bang when he needs to. Jones has really never lost at Cruiser (Cunningham decision was bad), and really has only been clearly beaten once in his career, almost 16 years ago. Lebedev does not have the skill to hang with Jones. Jones' durability, even at 41, will allow him to survive the Lebedev attack and put on a masterclass, taking a wide UD (assuming fair judging). It's what he does.
