This is one of the most sensible posts I've seen regarding Kessler. Good job. I don't think Kessler is unbeatable at 168, but you would have to favor him over every fighter there. The people talking nonsense about Kessler beating up everyone at 175 are crazy. Dawson would beat the crap out of Kessler, Hopkins would rough him up and Johnson would be all over him. We already know what Calzaghe would do to him. Kessler should stick to 168, that's where he is most effective.
Agree! This talk about being robotic is causing a little bit of weariness. In Kessler's case its probably even a matter of taste. In any case there seems to be no consensus at all on the matter. At the end of the day, what really matters, is that whatever style you may adopt, you should perform it at World Class level. Kessler is pretty close to doing exactly that, however, IMO still needs a victory against a world class opponent. Hopkins would be a wonderful fight to watch provided Kessler can stay away from BHOPs elbows. Kess showed in the Calzaghe fight that he holds world class handspeed carrying more power in the punches than Calzaghe. Would 43 year old Hopkins really be able to keep up for 12 rounds, I doubt it. Please push for BHOP vs. Kessler!! It would be a blast.
Kessler would beat dawson 8-4 most likely. Hopkins... It depends on what weight, and how hopkins approaches... Kessler has decent output, decent speed, and has far better use of angles over Pavlik (a fighter he's compared to). However it's not angles anything like Calzaghe... Would be a very very interesting matchup. Johnson would probably be outboxed and maybe even stopped, depending on the ref. maybe.
I see noone dominating Kessler.Hopkins and Calzaghe might be slight favorites. Everyone else, including Dawson loses against Kessler when he is on his game. A guy like Abraham is always dangerous because he just needs one punch, but i see Kessler by wide UD the majority of the time...
How come Kessler and his team don't want to fight Dawson? Kessler says he wants to make a name for himself in America and HBO is very interested in the fight. If he could beat Dawson via 8-4 decision, why did his promoter say Dawson is too big for him and that they're not interested in the fight?
Ive heard no comment from Dawson saying he wants any part of Kessler either, so the point is irrelevent anyway...
Hopkins might beat him but it would be tight as Kessler has some major power in those combos... If Johnson can get so close to Dawson I think Kessler will beat him. Taylor = 0 chance.
Well one thing that is very obvious, Kessler is the man at 168 although there are always threats, where as Dawson is not the man at 175. He did not clearly beat Johnson, 80% of the Showtime audience that voted thought he lost. I believe he lost on my card as well. Kessler may not be as effective at the higher weight but that doesn't mean he isn't superior to Chad, pound for pound. Clearly, pound for pound, I would have Kessler rated above Dawson right now.
