it was inconclusive as a thread, but conclusive as my opinion former. what tipped it was the detail about jones' weight when he was a mw. the big weight advantage seems to be a myth as until the late 90's he didn't go above 170 on fight night. I don't see 10 pounds being a big enough obstacle for robinson. The thread is evenly split and that's fine, but my mind is made up :good
as always, an analyst at heart :good i can't say i've decided but it's a great question and i was THRILLED with the respect jones received in the thread
I've gotta be honest, me too. Infact, the general respect for modern boxers on this forum please me. wlad, floyd and jones have all been getting kudos on threads recently. much impressed :good
absolutely. there was a time (not that long ago) when having wlad in your top 15 heavies, floyd compete with napoles and jones as the best h2h middle would get you laughed off this place
yeah I thought that also. I'm not one of these modernists who believe no champs from yesteryear would even be journeymen today but I don't really see this huge regression in skill neither. Boxing seemed to peak and plateau in the 20's skillwise imo and it's not really jumped nor fell imo since then. from journeymen to champion there isn't a huge gap aside from those who stand out generation by generation. Pitting todays champs against any years champs shouldn't be a laughable thing imo.
I don't mind challenging conventional wisdom in boxing, but I need a damn good reason to do so and Wladimir Klitschko, Floyd Mayweather jr and Roy Jones Jr are stellar fighters and it would be unfair to not give them their due respect.
In turning the corner has teeto actually formed a new group of modern appreciating elitists? Let's all ourselves "teet's elites"
