Hagler, like Monzon, had the wisdom...common sense...smarts...whatever you want to call it, not to venture up out of his ideal weight class. Foster would have been too much for Hagler..I know Hag's chin is held in such high regard...but he NEVER fought a guy who could punch like Foster...no, not even Hearns...Bob Foster was the Killer Praying Mantis from Mars for all those poor hapless lightheavies of the 70's...and he would have feasted on ANY lighter weight class fighter of any era, for that matter. One bomb on the chin...may two or at the most three, and he'd take Hagler out of there. This isn't to say that Foster is the atg lb for lb...just one of the top 2 or 3 punchers of history.
Hagler was an 160 lber a perfect Middleweight, moving up would have put him at a disadvantage ...Foster was home at 175...certain fighter are great in there division and should stay at home...Hagler could go 168 but 175 vs one of the best is a horse of a different color
I know Foster had tremendous power, but I don't wouldn't bet against Marvin. We suppose that moving up to a catch weight to Fight Foster, his chin would change. Look at his comtemporaries: Duran, Ray and Hearns. Each of them moved up. If they never did... we would be having a discussion about how there would be no way a 147 Leonard could move up to 160 and beat a powerful Hagler!! And the thing is, how many times was Foster knocked out? How many times knocked down? Almost 20?? I think that Foster MIGHT be too much, but I would never discount Hagler anytime, any era from 175 down.
