Here here. There are plenty of better fighters for Lee Mac to be fighting. This fight should not be shown on TV.

To be fair Billy, you've must surely understand people wanting Burns to fight better fighters.

There's nothing personal, no anti-Scottish bias, all we want is for our world champions to follow Froch's example and fight the best fighters.

Especially when you consider that Ricky dominated a highly touted (albeit probably overrated in truth) Martinez to win the title...... who'd beat Evensen, Laryea and Cook all on the same night.

He is in a position to really push his career on and increase his earnings but is in danger of turning into another Alex Arthur.

I honestly don't think many people dislike Burns and no one blames him for the situation he is in. Generally people seem to feel sorry that he hasn't been properly handled over the last year.

I get the impression nice Mr Frank W was planning a big Scot v Scot clash between Burns and Appleby but that went off the rails because of Paul's fight with Laryea and the good people at Sports Network didn't have a Plan B so Ricky kind of ended up in no man's land.

 

Don't think anyone particuly doubts that.

I also think Ricky is a pretty well liked guy amongst fans.

I'll just repeat myself when I say it was hypocritical to start a thread about something of which your fighter is guilty (be it his decision or otherwise).

Also I have no problem of a couple of gimme defences for the lad to earn some money. But after that he does need to step up.

Before anyone jumps on my avatar I too agree Joe should and could have taken more chances in his career.

He has set the bar too high with his recent run of opponents. Now we expect everyone to follow suit.

Ricky is only two fights removed from the title win, lets give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

A few weak defences is nothing new in British boxing.

 

Could he not make a stand and insist on fighting guys that aren't this poor at world level though? I'm sure he doesn't want to continue this trend, and surely the only way to halt it is for him himself to say that he doesn't want fights like this, that he wants legacy-enhacing fights.

Burns really ought to be demanding these fights. If it means sacking whoever is his manager, if it's that Morrison bloke or Allegedly then so be it.

Can't call yourself a world champion and not fight world class fighters.
