Sailor Friedmans a contender for the FBI's 10 Most Wanted if they were in that era

It was a newspaper decision. Not everyone considers that legit.

The significant majority of newspapers saw Greb as the victor. When it is that decisive an opinion we have to give credence to the result or else throw out a lot of boxing results. Similarly, most thought Greb won the second fight even though he was obviously diminished. A couple hundred fights, many against HOFers, will do that to you.

I don't really have a dog in the fight, but the fact remains that not everyone looks at newspaper decisions as legit. You can respond or not respond, it just is.

By all means, take the last word.

It is revisionist to erase fights that happened because the anointed weren't at ringside but similarly qualified observers gave their decision.

And no, I refuse to take the last word.

Actually, it is revisionist to give someone a win on points in a no-decision fight that took place 100 years ago ... when it was agreed "by everyone involved before the fight" that if it went the distance no official verdict would be rendered.

There were no official judges, just a referee, because scoring wasn't how you won. You won by registering a knockout.

If you didn't score one, then you didn't win.

That's why so many names fought each other in so many no-decision fights. It was a way to make money and nobody lost if nobody got stopped.

Nobody is "erasing" that fact two people fought. We are just acknowledging nobody won because no one scored a knockout.

Whether one newspaper reporter thought someone won more rounds, and another reporter thought someone else did, has no bearing on the official result ... any more than a writer's opinion can change the official result of a fight today.

If no one got knocked out, the official result is no one won.

Changing the rules and declaring someone a winner of a contest 100 years later based on rules neither boxer was competing under is the ultimate revisionist act.

Greb has the deepest and best win resume in boxing history, imo.

Whilst quality and depth of opposition beaten is a key criteria to my rankings, I also value consistency of domination in a fighters prime highly.

All in all I rank Greb #2, with SRR #1. I could easily see Greb at #1, though.

McVey was a welterweight during Greb's career and his resume is largely filled with non -entities.

Did he really have one eye,Is this the reason for the lack of title fights, Officials worried over sanctioning a title fight with a man with one eye?

Do we have documented truth from a official doctor?

At the end of 1924 Harry Greb had a 6 rounds Newspaper win over Jimmy Slattery & A 10 rounds newspaper draw vs Gene Tunney.Sandwiched in between those he beat Billy Hirsch via 8th round TKO

    Boxrec

"According to the wire report in the Pittsburgh Post, "Greb was in perfect form and although he toyed with the Canton lad, at times to the amusement of the crowd..Hirsch landed solidly." Greb speeded up his attack in the 6th and by the 8th Hirsch was in such bad shape that referee stopped the fight."

This is recorded as a KO on Harry Greb's record

Billy Hirsch lost plenty before this fight. He never recorded another victory after this fight.

Just over a year later Billy Hirsch would lose to George TNT Gibbons via a 4th round TKO who just 2 (TWO) HOURS yes HOURS earlier recorded a TKO victory over Frankie Klaus.

This is not listed as a WIN or even recorded on boxrec for TNT Gibbons

Newspapers , you mean media? Like how the media is right about Covid and vaccines?

If the media was still scoring fights Manny Pacquaio beats Jeff Horn by a landslide.

    Take a look

    https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...quaio-vs-jeff-horn-popularity-judging.615380/

Observers say Greb got "annihilated" by Flowers. Nobody writes something like that unless it was factually accurate.

And btw , Greb lost to Tunny more times than he beat him. Only managed 1 victory in 6 bouts or something.
