Sorry but Johnson would use his bigger size to wear out Greg, who , as been stated, felt that Tunney at 180 was too big for him. And if TUNNEY (lol) could beat Greb, Johnson would do so as well.

This would have been on film like the Jeffries beatdown, so FINALLY we'd have a film of Greb.

You make it sound like Tunney had an easy night in all of those fights. He almost died because of the first one.

I'd like to add another comment to this thread. Johnson is a boring fighter to watch. Big time boring, low work rate, excessive holding, defensive minded (though, brilliantly so), and Greb wound change that for their fight. Greb would be swarming and moving and punching incessantly and from every direction imaginable and unimaginable! I still think that Greb would win, even though I do believe that size matters in boxing, but styles matter also.

Does the clown have any other stories to tell about how Tunney hit harder than Johnson? Or how about how Jeffries chin got worse while not fighting. It's Monday, I need a good laugh.

You're argument makes sense and I do believe that size matters in boxing. However, Greb, at times was more than a middleweight, perhaps what we would call a super middleweight, maybe a bonafide lightheavy at times. Heavyweights were smaller then, we're talking 200-208 tops for Johnson, not the 250+ pounders of today. I'm picking Greb because of styles and who Greb was. Johnson appears to be a one punch at a time, holding, brilliant, defensive type of fighter. Greb was a non-stop force to be reckoned with. Greb did cause damage as is witnessed by the fact
that he beat Tunney to a pulp once.

Swarming and being a non stop force against Middle's, Light Heavies and marginal HW is a far cry from being that against Johnson. It's much easier to be that way against fighters who are smaller, less skilled and less formidable, that it would be against Johnson. If Tunney grew too big for Greb, what would an even bigger Johnson be, when he hit even harder? If Johnson gets annoyed or presses the fight, he'd brutalize Greb, if he took the foot off the gas, he'd likely still win, but I'd be closer.

You guys keep spouting this same bull**** about Tunney growing to big for Greb. I keep seeing this over and over. Its a fact that Tunney was a HW for their fourth fight which Greb won, Its also a fact that Greb fought and beat bigger, stronger, and harder hitting fighters than Tunney, and finally its also a fact that Greb, who you guys keep saying felt Tunney was too big for him, signed to fight Tunney a sixth time in early 1926. Sound like a guy who felt size was his enemy? No. Furthermore, in mythical matchups isnt it common to pair the best versions of both fighters? If so why are you guys comparing a prime Johnson with a 31 yr old half blind Greb that by the time Tunney gained a conclusive victory over him had more than 3 times the fights Johnson would retire with and just happened to enter that fight with a cracked rib?? Johnson is a puzzle for anyone to solve, particularly a smaller man like Greb, moreso because of his style than anything. Johnson would have to be heavily favored but Greb was used to being the underdog and the fact that some people could even envision a fight between he and and an all time great hw like Johnson says a lot about Greb's pedigree and ability.

Don't disagree with a lot of what you said, but my question is, did Greb not say that? Was this a quote a never said? I'm genuinely curious if he said, and why he said, considering all the other facts you pointed out.

Good points ,may I ask you is this statement by Greb correct?

"That's the last time I'll fight this guy," Greb told Referee George Barton in his dressing room after the fight. "He's getting too big and too strong for me to handle. I could lick him at one time but not anymore. Tunney is really getting good"

PS I bow to no one in my admiration for Greb whom I believe is the p4p numero uno.

NB Tracy Callis just scrapes him into his P4P top ten at number ten!
