I thought Tapia first had some addiction problems way back before he won his 1st title?

Your 100% right. Kudos to Booth who, IMO, should be getting a lot more recognition for battling his demons

Good Call i forgot about him he was sure a good comeback story. Too bad he was robbed in his 2nd career against Pinango.

Bobby Chacon although suffering from dementia has been sober for a while now.

Mando Ramos made a drastic turnaround after retiring he became a big advocate in AA and started his own program BAAD(Boxers against Alcohol and Drugs) was Sober for over 25 years when he passed away. Met him many times, even at parties where the booze was flowing and never saw him take a sip.

The guy in my avi Danny Trejo never turned pro but was San quentin prison champ and former amatuer fighter. Been sober for almost 20 years. Also a well known guest speaker at N/a AA meetings.

Alex Ramos,Gerry Cooney are other guys who had substance abuse problems and turned it around.

Yes he did stop and made a great comeback. But unfortunately went back and has battled his addictions since. Heard he was suppose to be on Celeberity Rehab last year but he got incarcerated.

Pinklon Thomas kicked heroin into touch before he won the WBC title, apparently. Though, from what I've read,he lapsed soon afterwards.

This is the best example I can think of. If I remember correctly he was having drug problems for a large part of the hiatus he had 1982-1987.

Tony Ayala out of Texas hit the booze and drugs pretty hard before getting thrown into the crowbar hotel.

Alex Ramos right now is probably one of the best guys in the boxing business. His work is phenomenal.

A security guard I used to work with (who used to box as an amateur) knows Booth pretty well and has spent time training with him now and again - he used to absolutely rave about how blindingly fast he was (and the security guard bloke was pretty damn fast himself when I used to play fight with him  - so Booth must be like lightning) - he did say he was a good guy too - hopefully things go well for the guy from here on

Mando Ramos was a comet across the sky -- a helluva fighter 'n crowd-pleaser with a top ATG future. Even winning the world lightweight title, there wasn't a day he wasn't drunk 'n high.

Wasn't Mike Ayala addicted to heroin when he went to war with Danny Lopez in 1979?

He fought on for quite a while afterwards without ever scaling the same heights but he must have at least controlled his addiction.
