I dont think there should be a super heavy division, but a a raise of five or ten lbs would be in order for cruiser IMO. It'd certainly strengthen the division, and guys like Chambers would still be heavies.
It's a dilemma. If you reduce the number of weight divisions it means that professional boxers have less of an opportunity to make big money and as far as I'm concerned it's sacrilege to play with the historical weight divisions. If you fractionally raise the cruiserweight limit again, fighters still will want to campaign at heavyweight, which is the glamour division where the big money is. In my opinion, boxing doesn't really need new weight divisions; it needs a radical overhaul of the way the sport is governed and controlled in the form of something like an expanded version of McCain's Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. The Klitschko's supposedly being too big to make competitive fights is the least of boxing's problems in the 21st century. The sanctioning bodies and promoters need to be more transparent and accountable and there needs to be financial measures put in place to protect boxer's rights and ensure their welfare.
I think 10 weight divisions maximum would make sense. These 8 : Fly, Bantam, Feather, Light, Welter, Middle, Light-Heavy and Heavy .... and then maybe cruiser at 195, and maybe Straw or Mini-Fly at 105 .... I agree with those who see a real problem with the fact that boxers manipulate their weights with dehydration on the day-before-weigh-ins and end up getting in the ring 15+ pounds over the limit, even 20+ pounds Not sure what the best way to solve that is though
