I always thought Kostya could have beaten Hatton in a rematch if it had been on neutral ground, or at the very least, if Hatton didn't have Dave Parris officiating the fight. That was disgusting how blatantly Parris continued to rule in Hatton's favour and disregarded Tsyu'z legit KD of Hatton, and never penalised Hatton for his blatant low blow. Considering Tsyu's age, and trouble making weight, and the timezone problems that have been documented since the fight, on top of the bad refereeing, Kostya did pretty bloody well to last 11 rounds.
It's too late now. The loss to Hatton left a bad taste in everyone's mouth I think... I feel like he could have continued his career after a short break too and I think he could have beat Hatton on a different night. Shame really, but still a legend. Threads featuring Tszyu in the main forum always spark great debate and everyone regards him very highly in general.
Too true. How many bad words have ever been written about Kostya? A legend and someone we all should look up to.
Bloke is a legend. Hatton's style is all wrong for him though at a late stage of his career. If KT really wanted the return, it would've been made. I think Hatton would've jumped at the chance for a return, especially one on neutral turf like the US.
If Tszyu was allowed to box instead of being placed in arm bars he would have destroyed Hatton. Mayweather showed what an elite fighter would do to Hatton when there is a ref who upholds the rules.
Yea we all know the story Mutt but the better man won on the night , would you have complained if he boot was on the other foot ? Nah thought not , Blues please enlighten me on your pre fight comment .
Tszyu's team request a room for an hour before the weigh in where he burns off the last few grams to make weight. Kostya was very methodical in his preparation and that was his routine every fight. This time on arrival for the weigh in instead of being taken to a room as was requested and agreed upon he was ushered to the scales. That's why he came in over.
I agree. Not trying to sound like a bad sport or anything, but the referee really made it hard for him in there, it almost seemed like they were submission fighting at times. I don't think Kostya would have won in similar fashion to how Floyd won though, I believe he would have won a UD by about 4 or so points, with Hatton coming home strong.
what a crock of turd mate lol so its Hatton and Warrens fault Kostya came in 3 ounces over ? Kostya got a fantastic reception at the weigh in and soon enough burned the extra off after half an hour work out , these EXCUSES for his LOSS are getting pathetic , :deal
My statement remains. If KT wanted a rematch on neutral turf, it could've been made. Hatton was just too good on the night, any way you look at it. Just like Vince Phillips was.
Yes after the first fight a sequal would have been a pieace of **** to get on , Hatton wanted to take his show to the states and he did that in his very next fight , he would probably have jumped @ rematch with Kostya as Kostya had a massive name in the states back then , Hatton would have been the reletive unknown and got far more quality exposure Stateside off KT's name than he got off Louis Collazo's .
Sorry Josey, I disagree - it was one the most blatant displays of hometown refereeing I've ever seen - Hatton was allowed to smother and tie up Tszyu as much as he wanted, yet Parris broke it up every time Tszyu started getting the better on the inside. There was an incident in the 3rd or 4th round where Hatton ended up facing the ropes beside Tszyu, with both his hands holding Tszyu's arm back against the ropes, that's how ridiculous his holding tactics were. Tszyu's 'low' blows were on Hatton's belt and the shot that made Hatton double over and drop was actually above the belt, yet Parris ruled it a slip - actually, at the time he didn't seem to know what he wanted to call it, because he looked at Hatton as if to see what Hatton wanted him to rule it as - a low blow or a slip? Then for Hatton to wind up and blatantly go for Tszyu's nuts immediately afterwards - and to justify it with the 'low' blows Parris had ruled Kostya had thrown - was absolute bull****. Tszyu was gracious in defeat, but he was mugged that night - he was fighting 2 opponents that night in Hatton and Parris, and still managed to last 11 rounds. Warren summed it up when he said afterwards that they got Tszyu at the right time - they knew they were lucky to get away with the bull**** refereeing that night. As far as an immediate rematch was concerned, I don't recall Hatton being too keen (refer to Warren's comment) and Hatton hasn't quite looked the superman he apparently was that night since.
Bollocks Mutt its prize fighting the old Marqis of Queensbury rules went south with Kostys first low blow , do unto others etc etc , Hatton beat Tszyu fair and square without a home cooking ref . Hatton was just better on the night , ok you say he was tying Kostya up , Well hell **** yea , you fight to your strenghts not your opponents , i never heared anyone moan about Hopkins tactics v Calzaghe even though it made for a **** poor fight , horses for courses mate , Kostya retired on his stool ,Hatton went onto become a legit Two weight world champion , he aint Floyd Mayweather as we saw but he aint going to be remembered world wide for getting a dubious decision over Tsyzu . more for the check hook probably atsch
